1. Physical Damage

Physical damage is the most common type of damage, associated with white, red or black colors. All the hero classes and almost all monster types have a physical damage attack as their default attack. Any melee blow or kinetic missile will count as Physical. If damage type of a weapon or skill is not specified, it is most likely Physical. Bleed effects use Physical damage type as well. In addition, Demon Hunters, who use the power of shadow itself, also deal Physical damage when they unleash hatred of the pure darkness. Necromancers, in turn, use the powers of Blood and Bone to deal Physical damage.

Damage with Physical: Increases your Physical damage dealt. This includes both direct Physical damage and Bleeding damage over time.

2. Fire Damage

Fire is one of the types of Elemental Damage. The amount of fire damage received can be decreased by increasing Fire Resistance. Fire is often depicted in orange or red.

Unlike the extremely high but seldom dependable Lightning and the slow death of Poison, Fire takes the middle ground. It has less maximum damage potential than lightning but has a very consistent damage range, making it less unpredictable. Fire damages immediately, but some fire skills produce burning flames on the ground that can deal damage over time to anything that stands in the flames. Fire is found in all the Acts’ dungeons as traps or just for environmental effect. But players must still take care to stand near burning bodies or piles, lest they themselves get burnt and add fuel to the fire.

3. Lightning Damage

Lightning Damage is an Elemental Damage type. It is subject to Resistances and Immunities of the target. Lightning is typically depicted in light blue, yellow or white.

Lightning damage is perhaps the most recognizable and feared out of the three elemental damage types seen in Diablo series. In Diablo II, this is because of its extremely large damage range, sometimes ranging from a measly 1 to a player killing 2000. It is used by players who need to kill, but do not care even if the attack does almost no damage at all.

4. Cold Damage

Cold is one of the types of Elemental Damage. It is unique in that it not only damages targets, but it also often slows enemies. The effect is visible by a blue hue, and is commonly known as Chill. Frozen effect is a more powerful consequence, often added to Cold skills. Usually Cold is associated with colors blue or white.

Cold damage is taken rather seriously by players because of its versatility. Cold is not known for its damage range or amount but more for its effects of slowing, freezing and shattering opponents.

5. Poison Damage

Poison is both a type of Elemental Damage and a collective name of debuffs that deal damage over time. Some poison attacks have variable damage and duration. Poison is typically associated with the color green, and takes the form of toxins, venom, and acids. Necromancers represent the Poison spells as the essence of Blight.

6. Shadow Damage

Shadow is an Elemental Damage type introduced in Diablo IV, appearing as a purplish glow. The Rogue is able to imbue offense skills with Shadow Damage by lacing weapons with cursed oils. Enemies being killed while cursed with Shadow trigger an area of effect (AoE).
