Diablo 4 Mounts

Mounts are a new feature in Diablo IV, added for the very first time in the Diablo series. Horses were used as mounts by ancient nephalem. Millennia later, their human descendants still retain the practice.

How to Unlock Mounts in Diablo 4?

Mounts: Unlocked after completing the Main Questline with one character, Mounts have an assortment of customization options available to them, such as different types of Mounts, Armor, and Trophies. An example of this is the Cry of Ashava Mount Trophy reward that can be earned from the upcoming Server Slam. These adornments will transform your trusty ol’ steed into one hell of a warhorse. Mount Trophies can be attached to the flank or saddle of your horse. There are dozens of Trophies to be found in Sanctuary.

You'll unlock your mount around level 30, depending on how quickly you play through the campaign. Once a Mount is unlocked, it can be used in all game modes for any and all characters the player creates.

Some mounts, trophies, and titles are from completing achievement-style rewards.

List of D4 Mounts

Players will be able to use mounts to traverse across long distances. World Bosses are encountered in the open-world areas. The open-world is fixed, and not randomized. While the game has shared-world elements, it is not an MMO. Towns may become social hubs for a player once key story elements have been completed. Roads link various areas—sticking to the roads allows players to bypass monsters, while heading off the path will take them towards higher monster densities. Each zone has associated renown that the player can earn. The campaign is expected to take 45–50 hours to complete on a first playthrough.

Mounts D4

New to the Diablo universe, mounts help the player traverse the vast regions of Sanctuary. There will be many obtainable horse breeds and other mounts from completing puzzles, finding hidden locations and killing specific monsters, just to name a few.

Mounts are able to wear equipment that grants stats and changes the appearance of the mount. For example, hoof plates increase the speed of the mount and trophies will signal to other players that you have completed a specific obscure challenge.

Diablo 4 Mounts

Various mounts equipped with trophies and other mount equipment.

Each class comes with a unique dismount ability, which the player can activate. Players who get hit by an enemy will be dismounted automatically and will not be able to activate their dismount ability.

  • Barbarians leap from the mount and slam the ground.
  • Druids will leap into the air, shapeshift into Werebear form, and slam onto the ground.
  • Sorceresses turn into an ice storm that freezes enemies in their path.
  • Rogues leap from the mount and shoot a rain of arrows midair.
  • Necromancers will jump off the mount and slam the ground, unleashing a damaging cone of Bone magic.

In-game

Mounts are used as a means of transportation for traversing across long distances in the open world. Mounts can be customized via their armor, saddle, and can have trophies dangling from them (said trophies including severed heads). However, this customization is aesthetic only. Different types of mounts exist, including demonic horses, flayed horses, and dead horses. Mounts can be obtained in a variety of ways, such as by completing puzzles, finding hidden locations, or slaying certain monsters. The mount's speed can be altered by collecting different types of horseshoes.

All character classes have special dismounting attacks that allow them to perform a special offensive action the very moment they leap off their mounts. If a monster attacks the mount, the player is forced to dismount.

Development

The developers decided against jousting or fighting from horseback, as it didn't feel true to the series.

Tweaking Diablo 4 Mounts

Mount customisation promises something a little more interesting than simply cosmetic enhancements with the ability to augment and improve mounts.

Cosmetics will be available for mounts such as saddles, armor, different horseshoes, and other trinkets. These customisations are said to improve the performance of a mount. For example, armor could decrease damage and other additions could make them a little faster by X%. Blizzard said these augmentations could be useful in PvP. Mount additions give players something else to strive for when it comes to showing off in the game to other players. A flaming mount, an undead mount, an angelic mount, there are a lot of possibilities.

Diablo 4 Mounts in Action

Blizzard wants players to able to charge directly into battle from a mount. Abilities activated on dismount bring that effect to life. It’s not known at this stage whether that will be an effective tactic. Firing off a single ability will automatically dismount you. This will execute that skill as you land as you can see in the video below.
