This can only be done once. However, the Codex of Power allows players to choose buffs for their Legendaries at will. Sacred and Ancestral Legendaries only drop towards the end-game. Legendaries cannot be traded.
If you happen to leave a Legendary Item on the ground or are disconnected before you can acquire it, don’t fret—they can be accessed through a special storage tab in your Stash. Your Stash only has so much room; remember to empty it out from time to time.
Extracting Legendary Bonuses: Have a Legendary Item with a bonus you adore but the other stats are too weak? Extracting allows you to take the Legendary bonus from one item and apply it to other items, enabling you to tailor your items to your specific build and have your favorite bonuses on hand.

Max affixes: 5 total (4 Regular + 1 Legendary)
A Legendary item also has five affixes, with one of them being a much more powerful Legendary affix (think 2-3x the effect of a regular affix). Legendary affixes are denoted by an orange star icon, and roll randomly (i.e., any Legendary affix can appear on any Legendary item). Some may be class-specific, while others apply to all classes. These affixes can be extracted from a Legendary item and stored in a Legendary Aspect, which can then be used to upgrade another item.
Legendaries have randomly rolled stats and affixes, including a more powerful Legendary affix. Players can extract this Legendary affix (if wanted) by utilizing the Occultist NPC. The resulting Legendary Aspect can then be applied on another item, like a Legendary or Rare.
Sacred Legendaries are more powerful than regular Legendaries. They only drop when a player reaches higher levels.
These are the most powerful Legendary items and will replace a player's Sacred and regular Legendary items when found (although that won't be often). They drop when a player reaches the highest levels of the game.
Legendary Aspects can be imprinted on Rare and Legendary items at the Occultist. After imprinting:
Codex of Power Aspects can be applied indefinitely. Regularly extracted Legendary Aspects are consumed when they are imprinted onto an item. An item can only be imbued once!
Legendary Aspects can only be imprinted onto specific item slots which are determined by the category of the Legendary Aspect itself. Each Legendary Aspect belongs to a specific category, including Defensive, Offensive, Resource, Utility, or Mobility and in some cases the item slot you choose for a Legendary Aspect can also increase the imprinted Legendary Power on the item
Legendary and Unique Items remain a core part of the Diablo item chase experience. We’ve made a foundational change to Legendary items in Diablo 4 by allowing legendary powers to appear on multiple item slots. Now, if you’re searching for a legendary power, like Martial Arts—which enhances the Barbarian’s kick ability—you may find it on rings, chestplates, or helmets; there’s no need to hunt for a specific item type any longer.
Now, the real question is what happens when you find a power on an axe when you really wanted it on a ring? Or you found a great legendary amulet, but can’t use the power? Well, that is when we get to introduce our new friend, the Occultist.
The Occultist can extract a legendary power from a Legendary item, crystallizing it into Essence while destroying the item in the process. That Essence can then be implanted into another Legendary item, overriding the power that was present in the item at that time. Essence material can also be stored and used at a later time.
Unique Items cannot be modified in this way, keeping their fantasies intact—and as their name implies—unique.
Legendary Items are a class of item in Diablo Immortal, Diablo III, and Diablo IV, similar in terms of rarity to Unique Items from Diablo II. On many occasions, items of that quality are also called Legendary Items, or "Legendaries" (often abbreviated to "legos" or "legs", not to be confused with leg-slot pants). They are among the strongest and rarest items in Diablo III.
You can think of Legendary items as Rare items with one affix replaced with a legendary effect. These new legendary affixes work just like regular affixes, in that they can roll randomly on different items and in different slots. Many can be used by any class, while some are specific to a particular class.
Can’t decide between making your Chill effects Freeze faster or more damaging ground effects for your boots? No problem! Legendary affixes aren’t restricted to a specific slot.
You’ll notice a variety of our affixes in the examples above, including elemental resistances and sockets for gems and runes, which can appear on items in place of another affix. And of course, Attack comes from your weapons while Defense comes from your armor. With the increase to the maximum number of affixes available on items, we’ll also be adding new affixes to the game to make sure there’s plenty of diversity.
Unique items are making a comeback in a big way in Diablo IV. We’re embracing the fantasy of these build-around items with completely fixed affixes, heavily thematic and usually class-specific powers, and distinctive looks.

We still like the idea of Mythic items, but we don’t want to create an item quality that invalidates all others, so they’re out for now. One of the things we loved most about them was the promise of getting random legendary powers on an item, so we folded that into our baseline legendary design.
With the addition of the skills and passives tree, primary stat points, and changes to items in Diablo IV, we can’t wait to see all the builds you’ll create. Maybe you’ll focus on skills augmented by Uniques we designed, create something from scratch out of different legendary affixes, discover a creative pairing of primary stats with specific skills, or even incorporate the odd Rare or Magic item to maximize a specific affix to great effect.
Legendary Items: These powerful items possess the ability to enhance or change your Skills and lend other helpful bonuses to your character. When you grow powerful enough an Occultist can extract and replace the powers on your Legendary items. Legendaries cannot be traded.
We are exploring some big changes in this space for two reasons:
1. We agree with the feedback that a character’s power is currently too dependent on items. We plan to put more of the player’s power back into the character to make build choices more impactful, rather than have the majority of player power coming from the items they have equipped. That said, it’s important that we strike the right balance so that itemization choices always feel meaningful.
2. We’ve also had very mixed team feedback regarding core itemization. We’re currently looking at how to best differentiate our various item qualities. For example, should Magic quality items have higher affix stats than Rare items?
Magic Find is the common Diablo 4 term for items that possess the % Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items. It is a magical effect that increases the likelihood that a Magic, Rare, Set, Unique, or Legendary Items will drop. Before high magic find penalties, it will scale up the chance for an enemy to drop a magical item linearly based on their drop rate. Magic Find is added across all items for your character.
Diablo 4 Items will either be tradeable, bind on trade, or bind on pickup. The developers think that the predominant source of items should be from killing monsters.

Cannot be Traded: Legendary Items & Aspects, Unique Items, Enchanted Items, All other currencies but Gold, Quest Items.
