Gambling at the Purveyor of Curiosities will be an improved version of Gheed (Diablo II) and Kadala (Diablo III). Obols are used as the currency to purchase randomized items by their type at varying prices. You can obtain Obols by completing Local Events in the world. The best items in the game will be available through gambling. Item types and their respective cost are listed below.

How To Get Obols

Obols are a special reward you receive from completing many of the special Events and tasks in Sanctuary. You can have a maximum of 1,000 Obols at any given time, leaving any extra you come across to waste. Make sure to spend your Obols whenever you’re approaching the limit.

Here is a list of the events so far that can reward Obols:

  • Cursed Chest/Shrine Event in Dungeons
  • Completing Quests with a Cache reward
  • Completing Local Events with Maste
  • Gathering Legions Zone Events

Tips

  • Gallowvine is the most important resource early on. ALWAYS PICK IT UP!
  • Materials have many uses and can be found all over Sanctuary as plants, ore veins or monster drops.
  • Gold is used in almost everything in Diablo 4; collect as much as possible!
  • Gambling with Obols is a great way to get Legendary Powers.
  • Forgotten Souls and Fiend Roses can only be found in a Helltide.
  • Scattered Prisms can only be found from World Bosses.

At BlizzCon 2019, you said that the best gear will be available through gambling, is that still the case?

Super rare Uniques, which are much rarer than the regular Uniques, were added since then which may not be available through gambling. Joe Shely added that they would double-check on that to make sure this information is correct.
