Diablo 4 Hawezar

Diablo IV utilizes an open world structure with five unique regions. These are Kehjistan (specifically its northern desert region), Scosglen, the Dry Steppes, the Fractured Peaks, and the swamplands of Hawezar. Each of these areas will be 10–20 times larger than even the largest areas in Diablo III. Each of the regions are connected, and players can traverse the areas without interruption. The geography of the regions shifts in accordance with this. For instance, if a player heads south from the Fractured Peaks to Hawezar, they will see a series of waterfalls, as snowmelt feeds the swamps.

Hawezar is a swampland region within Sanctuary. It is located south of the Fractured Peaks and east of Kehjistan. Major terrain features within Hawezar are dense forests, swamps, marshes and shallow rivers. Hawezar is home to witches, assassins, thieves and giant snakes. Playable locations within Hawezar are unknown at this time.

Hawezar Environment

Witches and zealots call this snake-infested swampland home, scouring the murky depths for ancient artifacts. The unaware will quickly find themselves in dire straits.

Every good RPG needs a poison swamp, and Hawezar has that covered in spades. Blizzard looked at Florida’s marshlands and European swamps as a foundation and populated the zone with poisonous flora and fauna that’s sure to plague explorers. Perhaps the most hideous enemies residing here are the Nangari, new snake-like enemies whose bodies are laden with human appendages and multiple heads. “They’re really grotesque looking,” says senior quest designer and zone supervisor Harrison Pink. 

Hawezar is partially occupied by soldiers representing the Order of Zakarum, a religion dedicated to following the light, who traveled to the region in search of a holy location. That expedition didn’t pan out, so the crusaders, several of them disillusioned and disgruntled, settled in the town of Zarbinzet. In addition to seeing these armored crusaders patrolling, players will spot several old Zakarum forts partially tilted and sinking into the saturated earth.

It has been said that only those who deal in death, or wish to find it, come to Hawezar, or that only those who wish to be forgotten come here. Poison, disease, and despair spread over this region like mold, growing and infecting everything within. Hawezar is a deadly land, even to those familiar with its tortuous—and torturous—paths. Swamp Witches intone long-forgotten curses within the swamps, worshiping giant snakes. The Witches may be willing to impart their dark knowledge, but only at a high price.

Man-eating plants hunger for human flesh. It is a place of madness, of black magic, and poisonous spiders are common here. Nevertheless, Hawezar is inhabited by cutthroats, thieves, assassins, murderers that want to do their dark trades far out of the reach of the forces of like law and order, or groups like the Zakarum.

Hawezar's swamps are fed by waterfalls from the Fractured Peaks due to snowmelt.
