Steel yourself before one of the Burning Hells’ most fowl machinations, Ashava. She’s a lumbering behemoth with two razor-sharp arm blades, scales stronger than plate mail, and hell-bent on ripping through all who interrupt her quest to bathe Sanctuary in poisonous bile.
Because your characters can't surpass Level 20 during Server Slam, felling her will be quite the monumental task.
Here’s when you’ll have an opportunity to combat Ashava during Server Slam:
Ashava the Pestilent is a World Boss in Diablo IV. If you got your hands on our BlizzCon demo or watched our gameplay trailer closely, you may have noticed a massive new addition: Ashava. Ashava, the first of our new World Bosses, is an ancient demon lurking below Sanctuary who will take more than just one mighty hero to fell.
Daring wanderers seeking a sizeable challenge should look no further—Ashava, a whirlwind of pestilence, has recently emerged in Fractured Peaks. Journal entries recounting sightings of this gargantuan plague bearer make note of her two massive forearm blades and ability to coat the ground in a viscous poison. Her blades, which can cleanly cut through stone and flesh alike, are to be feared. Records appear to mention a way to weaken Ashava, but unfortunately that portion of the page has corroded away.
Not only will you need to group up (or at least join several other players) to challenge Ashava, but you’ll want to pay close attention to her abilities and carefully make use of your skills. Avoid her deadly strikes with the baseline Evade ability and leverage the new Stagger mechanic in your favor. Rather than having bosses be immune to crowd control effects, they can instead become Staggered, losing some of their capabilities or powering down once a certain threshold has been met. When battling Ashava, Staggering her will shatter her arm blades and greatly diminish the range of her whirlwind attack, making her a little less deadly for you and your friends.
Here’s when you’ll have an opportunity to combat Ashava during the Open Beta and Early Access weekends:
Name | Description |
---|---|
Double Swipe | Carves the ground in a 360 degree sweep, then carves again right after in a 180 degree sweep. Wide attack, massive damage. When you see this start up animation, run! Remember, there are 2 attacks, so do not jump back in too early. |
Leap | Jumps and tackles you, which can knock you down. She dips into a pouncing stance before leaping. Use evade to move anywhere but in front of her. |
Ground Pound | Pounds the ground, then swipes behind shortly afterwards, hitting front and back. Pull effect and massive damage. The pound itself is no threat. Use this animation to evade out the way. |
Acid spit | Vomits 3 blobs of Poison on the battlefield. Stays for 20 seconds. |
Bite | Melee range. Bites 4 times consecutively, with the last bite having a bigger animation and dealing more damage. |
Each zone as a specific area that they spawn. In Fractured Peaks, these events spawn at the bottom right region known as The Crucible. When you arrive, there is a timer, letting you know how much time is left before it spawns. Use this time to prep for the fight or invite friends to tag along. You can enter this event after it has already started for a short window of time. These fights are so massive in scale that the camera actually zooms out. This confirms you are in battle.
A World Bosses health bar has 4 breakpoints. Once a breakpoint is reached, the red arrow flips up and turn grey. This indicates that you are in the next phase of the fight, while also dropping multiple healing vials. Each phase becomes increasingly more challenging.
Immediately beneath the health bar is a stagger bar that fills when Crowd Control (CC) is dealt. Once full, the World Boss is rendered helpless for 12 seconds. Use this time to unleash as much hell as you possibly can. Each World Boss also has a unique mechanic in addition to being staggered. The Ashava World Boss arm blade breaks permanently when staggered, making her weaker for the rest of the fight.
Ashava The Pestilent is a World Boss that requires the cooperation of many players to be defeated. Ashava will mostly perform melee attacks except for the Poison Breath and the Arm Blades attack. When Ashava becomes staggered one of his arm blades will break. If both arm blades are removed this way, Ashava will lose the ability to perform the arm blade attack providing more freedom for ranged Heroes.
Now I want to talk about bosses, because that’s like my specialty, that’s what I like to do; and it’s kind of why I joined the team. First, I want to talk to you about Ashava, and you’ve probably heard a lot about her; and I hope you played her on the demo. Please give us your feedback, but if you haven’t met her, I think that she’s important to the world for two reasons; one because she’s this ever-present threat in Sanctuary, she’s lurking, she’s sleeping underneath the surface of Sanctuary; and she can pop up anywhere in the world — as like a constant reminder that Lilith is watching and that nowhere is safe from the from the gates of Hell.
But to us as developers, I think that she’s kind of like a monument to what Diablo IV is as a game. She’s this enormous monster, but she takes more than just you to defeat. People have to come together across all the regions to take her down, because she’s just this giant killing machine. I thought she was kind of cool. She’s actually the reason that I joined the team. I was walking by the Diablo IV area and Jesse’s playing metal music or whatever, and I saw her on someone’s screen. I was like: “What’s that?” — and he was like: “Girl, let me show you” — and he showed me the stagger mechanic that she has, and I got super excited; and I was like: “Man, I got to join this team. Tag me in.”
