Diablo 4 Spirit Animals

D4 Spirit Animals

The Druid’s class mechanic revolves around 4 Spirit Animals that live in Scosglen.

The Druid must travel to the Scosglen region, its home, to unlock the 4 Spirit Animals. This will likely occur around Level 15, after Act 1 ends. At Level 15, the Druid is eligible for a class-specific quest with an objective of freeing the Spirit Animals.

Once this quest is completed, the Spirit Animals will each request 100 Spirit Offerings in order to offer their Boons (i.e., passive bonuses). Spirit Offerings are likely collected from monster drops in Scosglen.

After the Spirit Animal is given the 100 Spirit Offerings, it’ll then offer at least 1 of its 4 Boons to the player. It’s speculated that players are initially given 1 Boon and the other 3 unlock at certain level intervals. A player can only choose 1 Boon from a Spirit Animal at a time, unless all Spirit Animals have been unlocked.

Extra Boon for unlocking all

Once all 4 Spirit Animals have been unlocked, the player can choose 2 Boons from a single Spirit Animal and 1 Boon from the other 3 Spirit Animals for a total of 5 Boons (i.e., 2 + 1 + 1 + 1).

Along with information about what players can expect from the upcoming Early Access and Open Beta weekends (March 17-19 and 24-26, respectively), the March 6th Twitter Developer Q&A also gave information about one of the central class mechanics that will be available for Druids in Diablo IV: Spirit Animals.

This class mechanic will not be available in Open Beta, even though the Druid class will be playable then. Open Beta will limit players to the Act I zone Fractured Peaks, and this class mechanic only becomes available once Druids can access the druidic zone Scosglen.

Once Druids start working their way through Scosglen, starting around level 15, they will gradually unlock the ability to interact with four different Spirit Animals. These Spirit Animals will be able to receive boons that Druids can acquire through defeating mobs and other activities. These boons unlock bonus player bonuses that the Druid can then choose to receive by forming a bond with that Spirit Animal.

At first, Druids will only be able to bond with one Spirit Animal at a time and only receive that animal’s buffs — though they will be able to swap these out at will. However, once Druids have unlocked all four Spirit Animals in Scosglen, Druids will be able to receive one boon from three of the Spirit Animals, and specialize in the fourth to receive two boons from that Spirit Animal, for a title of five boons all at the same time.

This mechanic was present in the closed beta from late 2022, but the last benefits are a slight change from what was presented at that time. As with any beta information, this mechanic may change between now and Diablo IV’s launch on June 6.

Druid Unique Class Mechanic in Diablo IV

Unique Class Mechanics in Diablo IV are class-exclusive systems that offer additional ways to customize your class further. These systems are also deeply entwined with class fantasy and try to provide an immersive gameplay experience.

The Druid's Unique Class Mechanic is the Spirit Animal System. Spirit Animals, located in Scosglen, will grant the player a variety of boons to choose from depending on the Spirit Animals they have bonded with. Druids will be able to choose one boon from each Spirit Animal that they have unlocked. These boons can be swapped out at will. Once Druids have unlocked all four Spirit Animals they can select a second boon from one of the Spirit Animals to receive a total of five buffs.
