Shards of Hatred are a form of currency in Diablo IV. They are encountered in Fields of Hatred, where they can be obtained by slaying enemy players and monsters, along with opening chests and completing events. The shards must be brought to a purification event in order to turn them into usable currency. The shards can be used in small encampments found around the Fields. They can also be used with special vendors found only in the fields.
Purifying the shards will alert enemy players. Purified shards are the player’s, but unpurified shards are fair game.
