Vaal Summon Skeletons is an active skill gem.

Summons an army of skeletal warriors, archers and mages, led by a powerful general.Summon Skeleton Warrior minions at the targeted location. They use a melee attack and die after a duration. If made aggressive, Skeleton Warriors will also dash towards nearby enemies.

Spell, Minion, Duration, Vaal. Level: 1–20. Souls Per Use: 50. Can Store 1 Use. Soul Gain Prevention: 10 sec. Cast Time: 0.80 sec. Requires Level 10. Level: 1–40. Cost: 5–25 Mana. Requires Level 10.

Vaal Summon Skeletons is a vaal spell that summons an army of skeletons, led by a skeleton general.

Skill functions and interactions

One of several general variants will be randomly summoned on cast.

Aura General: Skeleton General that wears armor, somewhat similar to Vaal Fallen. Has an Aura that grants 10% of physical damage as extra fire damage.

Melee General: Skeleton General that wields a mace. It has melee splash attacks that are slow but deal high damage.

Archer General: Skeleton General that uses a bow. It can use the Rain of Arrows ability.

Mage General: Skeleton General that doesn't use weapons. It mainly casts Summon Raging Spirit.

This skill works with the passive skills that increase the maximum number of skeletons. But like Summon Skeletons it does not gain an increase in the amount spawned at each use. If one were to cast the ability while it is still in effect its behavior is similar to Summon Skeletons; first it spawns new skeletons up to the cap, then it start replacing the oldest one. When replacing, no consideration is taken to what kind of skeleton is summoned or replaced. Hence it's possible to have two generals at a (short) time. At gem level 20 with all passives and no unique items the chance is 6/(36+6).

Item acquisition

Vaal Summon Skeletons has restrictions on where or how it can drop. Vaal Summon Skeletons can drop from the Vaal Vessels found in Vaal side areas. Drop level: 10.

The Player can have a maximum of 47 (or more) Skeletons from this skill gem Active at once:

36 from level 20 skill gem
6 from passive skills
3 from unique equipment (wearing Alberon's Warpath, and dual wielding Midnight Bargain)
2 from a body armour with Catarina's mod

Note, that To Dust (previously named Army of Bones) no longer grants +2 to Maximum number of Skeletons.
