Blade Blast - Path of Exile

Blade Blast is an active skill gem.

Deals spell damage in a targeted area. When this spell deals damage, if your Lingering Blades or Blade Vortex blades are nearby, it will detonate them, dealing damage again in an area around them. Up to 50 Blades can be detonated this way.

Spell, AoE, Physical. Level: 1–20. Cost: 6–16 Mana. Cast Time: 0.50 sec. Critical Strike Chance: 6.00%. Effectiveness of Added Damage: 70%. Requires Level 16.

Blade Blast is a spell that creates an area of effect explosion that deals physical damage. The explosion chains to any Lingering Blades left on the ground by Bladefall and Ethereal Knives, and blades created by Blade Vortex. If used with Blade Vortex, all stacks of it will be consumed immediately, creating an expanding ring around the player.

Skill functions and interactions

The damage and level of the skill that leaves lingering blades on the ground is not calculated in the blade blast damage. Lower level skills can create more blades in certain situations. For example:

Keeping skills low enough to support a level one Cast when Damage Taken Support, will give the best chance to create maximum blades from damage taken.

Lingering blades from Ethereal Knives and Bladefall will persist after unequipping them. Therefore using said skills on a weapon swap and then swapping back to blade blast will save gem slots.

Partying: although Blade Blast says "your lingering blades or blade vortex blades", you may detonate lingering blades created by other players in your party. However, Blade Vortex on other party members may not be detonated.

Blade Blast can drop anywhere. Drop level: 16.
