Glacial Hammer Glacial Hammer is an active skill gem.

Hits enemies, converting some of your physical damage to cold damage. If an enemy is frozen and is on less than one third life, they will shatter when hit by Glacial Hammer. If striking three times in a row, the third strike will freeze enemies more easily. Requires a Mace, Sceptre or Staff.

Attack, Melee, Strike, Cold. Level: 1–20. Cost: 5 Mana. Effectiveness of Added Damage: 165–269%. Requires Level 1.

Glacial Hammer is a melee strike attack that hits the enemy, converting 100% of physical damage to cold damage, with added cold damage against chilled enemies. If the enemy is frozen and is on less than one third life, they will shatter when hit with Glacial Hammer. Every third hit is more likely to freeze enemies. Requires a mace, staff or sceptre.

Skill functions and interactions

  • Damage conversion: Like all converted damage, the cold damage component of Glacial Hammer's damage will be modified by Cold Damage, Elemental Damage and Physical Damage.
  • Unique Enemies: Unique enemies that are frozen will not shatter at one third of maximum life.
  • Successive strikes: must be done one after the other to get the third strike bonus. Doing anything other than attacking with glacial hammer after the first or second strike will prevent the third strike from getting the bonus.
    • Multistrike Support: Multistrike will apply its largest damage multiplier to the same hit that receives the freeze effect bonus. This can help boost the potential of the skill to freeze bosses and other tough targets, with the normal drawback of multistrike lowering the damage from the first hit of the skill.
    • Ruthless Support: Because ruthless support does not immediately reset its count when the player moves or uses other skills, ruthless blows and the freeze effect bonus of glacial hammer's third hit will not always align. This can be synchronized by interrupting successive strikes (with movement or another skill) immediately after dealing a ruthless blow.
    • Supporting glacial hammer with both Multistrike Support and Ruthless Support causes ruthless to apply to one in three sets of multistrike repeats. This means that each time ruthless activates the character will apply three hits that are ruthless, with the third and final of those hits receiving the freeze bonus from glacial hammer.
