Bane - Path of Exile

Bane is an active skill gem.

Applies a debuff to enemies in an area, which deals chaos damage over Time. Linked hex curses are also applied to those enemies. The debuff deals more damage and lasts longer for each hex applied this way. This skill cannot be used by Totems, Traps, or Mines.You are taking Chaos Damage over time.

Bane is a skill gem that applies a debuff to enemies in an area, which deals Chaos Damage over Time. Linked Hex are also applied to those enemies. The debuff deals more damage and lasts longer for each curse applied this way. Bane does not count toward the curse limit, but the curses it applies do.

Skill functions and interactions

Triggering: Hex Curse skill gems linked with Bane are not directly usable (like other triggering methods). Triggering Bane however will not trigger any linked curses, since any skill linked with multiple triggers are disabled. Instead the curse skill will trigger alone in sequence as you would expect when linking multiple skills to a single trigger.
Damage Bonus: Bane's damage bonus per curse applied is additive with itself. For example, a level 20 Bane linked with two curse will deal 84% more Damage. Bane only gains the damage bonus from linked curses. Other sources such as curse on hit, Blasphemy Support, Vixen's Entrapment, and directly casting a curse will not give the damage bonus. Bane will not gain damage if the curse limit is reached (for example attempting to link two curses with a max curse limit of 1).

Curse Application: Bane will still apply the linked curses even if it does not do any damage, for example because you have the Ancestral Bond keystone ability. It can also be used to break barrels in this situation.
Breaking Objects: Despite not hitting, Bane will break pots, baskets, cairns, etc. within its area of effect.
Used with Vixen's Entrapment: Bane does not have the Curse gem tag (only has Hex tag). Using Bane will not trigger the curses that are socketed in the Vixen's Entrapment.
