Watchstones Mods - Path of Exile

PoE 3.17 Changes: The Watchstone system has also been removed, and replaced with Voidstones which are obtained by defeating The Uber Elder, The Maven, The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds. These Voidstones raise the tiers of maps on your Atlas and can be augmented by Sextants.

The Atlas now has only four regions: Haewark Hamlet, Valdo’s Rest, Glennach Cairns, and Lira Arthain. The number of obtainable Watchstones has been reduced to 16 (previously 32), and there are now 118 Maps on the Atlas (previously 164).

Watchstone Guide

Watchstones are an endgame item that can be placed in the Atlas of Worlds to upgrade a region's map tiers and add new base maps to that region. Each atlas region has a citadel, which is an interface that allows socketing 4 watchstones within it. These watchstones can have various crafted modifiers, that players can add onto them using sextants. Quest watchstones drop from defeating the Conquerors, while craftable watchstones can be purchased from other players or obtained as boss drops.

Titanium, Chromium and Platinum Watchstone

The Echoes of the Atlas expansion introduces three new types of craftable Watchstones: Chromium Watchstone Chromium Watchstone, Platinum Watchstone Platinum Watchstone, and Titanium Watchstone Titanium Watchstone. These valuable endgame items allow you to upgrade your Atlas and boost what types of rewards you find from maps. Players who are able to earn these powerful rewards will find that they are strictly better than regular Watchstones: they can be traded, don't expire with use, and their benefits can stack. They are found quite late in your progression through the Atlas. The eventual goal is that you replace all of your base quest item Watchstones with the new craftable ones over time, as you upgrade your atlas.

You can farm these new watchstones by completing the Maven's challenges.

Watchstone Craft

Like flasks, watchstones can only be normal or magic. You can't find or craft rare Watchstones.

Each of these three types of new watchstone has its own special mod pool, but there's also a shared mod pool that they all draw from. Because you can have up to four watchstones socketed in a region, up to eight mods can affect that region and some quite large bonuses to specific content can be stacked.

When combined with the Atlas Passive Trees, these really allow you to optimise what content you encounter, and the rewards from that content.

Awakening Level

The Awakening Level of the Atlas is determined by the amount of Watchstones applied to the Atlas. Since there are 8 sets of Watchstones, the highest possible Awakening Level is 8.

The Atlas now has only four regions: Haewark Hamlet, Valdo’s Rest, Glennach Cairns, and Lira Arthain. The number of obtainable Watchstones has been reduced to 16 (previously 32).

Awakening Levels increase the difficulty of all maps, but grant bonuses to item drops. It also enables Awakened Atlas completion bonuses at higher levels, granting further bonuses to map drops.

Each 4 awakening bonus objectives you complete increases the effect of Modifiers on Non-Unique Maps by 1%.

The Atlas is divided into 8 regions. Each region of the Atlas has 4 Watchstone slots. Players are required to beat the bosses in their citadels of that region in order to acquire the Watchstones.

Watchstone Currency: Sextant

Sextant can be used on a Watchstone to add a special modifier to all the maps on the region where the Watchstone is socketed.

  • The mods are random and duplicate sextants do not stack.
  • It applies all the maps in that region. Each Atlas region can be affected by up to four sextants at any one time.
  • Sextant mods applied to the Atlas last a total of three uses of maps within the area.

The Uncharted Realms passives

Each atlas region also allows players to select unique Atlas passive skill perks that affect drops and environmental effects within that region. The Uncharted Realms is an Atlas region located in the center of the Atlas of Worlds. Secrets of the Stones increases 25% effect of watchstone modifiers. Unique Watchstone Chance increases the drop rate of unique Ivory Watchstone from Sirus by 10%.
