Without gaining more than 5 stacks of Crushing Darkness or Annihilating Light

The fight arena is split into half;cold zone and hot zone, and depending on which zone you’re standing you’re gaining a certain buff per second on that zone:

  • You’ll gain Crushing Darkness when standing on cold zone. Crushing Darkness: You take more Cold damage, less Fire damage and have additional chance to be Frozen.
  • You’ll gain Annihilating Light when standing on hot zone. Annihilating Light: You take more Fire damage, less Cold damage and have additional chance to be Ignited.

To do this challenge, you have to stay perfectly on the Splitting Line of the arena, so that you can reset the buff count on and off by switch-standing on both zone easily, just watch to watch out for each buff not exceeding more than 5 stacks, that’s mean not standing each zone for more than 6 seconds … so watchout for that while killing the boss to complete this challenge.

The Black Star Splitting Line

While you have at least 30 stacks of Annihilating Light and without gaining any stacks of Crushing Darkness

To do this challenge you’ll have to only stand on the hot zone while avoiding touching the cold zone to prevent failing this challenge, gain up to 30 stacks of the annihilating light buffs only then kill the boss to complete this challenge.

PoE 3.18 Changes

  • Increased the damage of The Black Star's Fire Beam Skill. The Annihilating Light and Crushing Darkness debuffs now cause affected players to take more or less Fire or Cold damage from hits only (previously all Fire and Cold damage).
  • The chance for The Black Star and The Infinite Hunger to drop their Unique Items now scales with Map Item Quantity.
  • Atlas Passive Skill Points from completing Doryani's Machinarium and The Vinktar Square have been moved to rewards for defeating The Infinite Hunger and The Black Star.

Defeat The Black Star without being hit by Astral Avalanche

PoE Astral Avalanchec

  • When the Black Star uses Astral Avalanche, hide behind pillars on the blue section of the arena. (Pillars on the red section will break.) Ensure you are angled correctly away from the meteors. The meteors will always fall in the direction from the Black Star towards the center.
  • When the Black Star uses her Beam, hide behind pillars on the red section of the arena. (Pillars on the blue section will break.) The Black Star will strafe slightly while using this attack.
  • Be wary that being in the red section gives you a debuff that makes you more susceptible to fire damage, and being in the blue section makes you more susceptible to cold damage.
