Path of Exile 2 features 240 Skill Gems that grant devastating active skills and 200 Support Gems that modify their behaviour. Combine these together to create your perfect build. As you complete quests, Skill and Support Gems can become available at one of the vendors in each town.

While stationary, it builds up stages that provide protection from physical and fire damage. Storm Spear is a Skill Gem. Tags: Attack, Projectile, Lightning. Cost: 12 mana. Attack Speed: 80% of Base. Attack Damage: 142.1% of Base. Effectiveness of Added Damage: 142%. Performs a series of quick teleports towards a targeted location. If using the "Attack in place" option, the direction is reversed. Whirling Slash is a Skill Gem. DPS: 129.4. Cost: 17 mana. Attack time: 0.76 sec. Perform a cleaving 360 degree slash that kicks up spinning dust around you, slowing enemies and blinding them its area of effect. Cleave is a Skill Gem. Mana cost: 7. The character swings their weapon(or both weapons if dual wielding) in an arc, damaging monsters in an area in front of them. Support Gems

This is the next generation of Path of Exile’s famous skill system. Support Gems are now socketed directly into Skill Gems, removing many of the frustrations present in the old system while maintaining all the previous depth. It’s now possible to six-link every skill your character uses.

Inevitable Critical Support is a Support Gem. Tags: Support. Requires Level 10, +10 Str. Supports skills that hit enemies, giving them extra critical strike chance when not dealing critical hits. Cannot support skills which create minions, or skills used by totems or traps. Supported Skills gain 40% increased Critical Strike Chance each second, up to 200%. This Critical Strike Chance is lost whenever a skill supported by Inevitable Critical Critically Strikes. Place into a Support Gem socket of a matching colour to apply its effects to that Skill. Biting Cold Support is a Support Gem. Tags: Cold, Support. Requires Level 24, +15 Dex. Supports any skill that hits or chills enemies, causing cold exposure to chilled and frozen enemies. Arrow Nova Support is a Support Gem. Tags: Bow, Attack, Support, Projectile. Mana multiplier: 140%. Requires Level 10, 21 Dex. Supports bow attack skills that fire arrows forwards as projectiles. These skills will instead fire a payload arrow into the air to land at a targeted location. The supported skills' arrows will then fire out from that location as a nova when it lands. New Skill Gem System

Character start with 9 skill sockets. Skill gems have their own sockets You'll find currency to increase the number of support sockets a gem has. Each upgrade is rarer that the last. Gradual upgrading means you'll rarely have one skill with far more support sockets than others. Changing socket colours is also deterministic.

240 Skill Gems

PoE 2 Gems Active Skills

Skills now can inherently turn mid-animation, with a wider angle of turning for skills with longer animation times. Additionally, many skills now dynamically move the player forward if targeting far away or have other in-built mobility.

The majority of skills now have unique animations. Moreover, each skill has a set of faster animations played when a character reaches certain thresholds of attack or cast speed. These animations cut out portions of the animation's start and end.

Mana cost is spent throughout the skill instead of on use; cancelling the skill or getting stunned will not consume mana. Most skills can be cancelled, with dodge roll forcibly cancelling most skills.

Most attack skills are now weapon specific, sometimes with added distinction between one and two-handed versions.

Skills can also be assigned to use a specific or any weapon set, dynamically weapon swapping based on your Dual Specialization settings. Weapon swapping has a slight delay based on the weapon's size.

Skills granted by ascendancy classes or items will now scale with skill levels based on the character's progression rather than be granted at an arbitrary specific level.

Wand skills like Kinetic Blast are spells. Brands have been merged in totem skills.

Skills now have independently selectable advanced settings, such as Attack in Place and targeting options like minion/totem aggression.

Skill gems & sockets

Items no longer contain sockets. Instead, the gem menu contains 9 slots for skill gems or meta gems.

Socket number: Skill gems now drop with a variable amount of sockets, up to 5 (for a 6-linked skill). Skill gems have at minimum 2 sockets, and can be upgraded to 3, 4, or 5 sockets deterministically with three tiers of Jeweller's Orbs.
Socket colour: Socket colours are randomized, by can be deterministically chosen using a Chromatic Orb.
Links: Sockets are always linked, which is why Orb of Fusing is not available POE2.

Meta gems: Meta gems are special types of skill gems that and can be supported by both support gems and other skill gems. Meta gems can trigger skills or provide more complex effects. Most trigger meta gems activate the supported gems when you fulfill the condition enough times.

Support gems: Support gems can be socketed into skill and meta gems. Support gems now no longer provide raw more damage modifiers, and instead are purely focused on utility. Support gems now add stat requirements to the skill gem's base attribute requirements.

Support Gem Features

Most supports give no direct damage. They customizing the role and mechanics of the skill.
No support should end up on every skill on a build - if it did, it should be a passive or spirit reservation.
Old favourites will return, but more than ever they'll be about changing the role of a skill.
Supports that give offensive benefits will have restrictions that make their skill more conditional.

Path of Exile 2 Uncut Skill Gem

Uncut skill gems must be engraved to become usable.

Players can find "Uncut Skill Gems" which can be crafted into a skill gem in the Gemcutting menu. Skills in the Gemcutting menu are categorized by each of the 12 character classes, but are not class-locked; any skill of appropriate level can be crafted on any character. The resulting gem's level will be scaled relative to its item level.

Skill Gems gain experience as you do while they are equipped.
