The Twilight Temple, specifically the Moon Temple variation, is a unique map in Path of Exile. It offers a boss encounter with interesting mechanics that affect the difficulty and rewards. Here's a breakdown of what to expect:

Layout and Mechanics:

  • The Twilight Temple itself is a standard map with various corridors and chambers.
  • The Moon Temple uniqueness comes into play upon entering the map.
  • You'll encounter a giant statue split between the Sun and Moon side.

Sun and Moon Platforms:

  • The map is divided symbolically into a Sun side and a Moon side.
  • There are pressure plates scattered throughout these areas. Stepping on a Sun or Moon plate activates the corresponding platform on the giant statue.
  • You cannot activate both Sun and Moon sides simultaneously.

Guardians and The All-Seeing Eye:

  • Defeating enemies on the Sun side empowers the Sun Guardian on the statue.

  • Likewise, clearing enemies on the Moon side strengthens the Moon Guardian.

  • The final boss encounter is The All-Seeing Eye. Its form and difficulty depend on which side you empowered more:

    • Sun Dominant: The All-Seeing Eye becomes a fiery version, dealing primarily fire damage. This fight is generally considered easier.
    • Moon Dominant: The All-Seeing Eye transforms into a shadowy form, focusing on cold damage. This fight is considered more challenging.

Rewards:

  • The rewards from The All-Seeing Eye are influenced by your choice.
  • The Sun version tends to drop more Strength and Dexterity-based items, while the Moon version favors more Intelligence and Evasion-based loot.

Tips:

  • Character Build: Consider your character's strengths and weaknesses when choosing between the Sun and Moon side.
    • If you have high fire resistance, the Sun side might be easier.
    • If you have good chaos resistance (often helpful against cold damage), the Moon side might be manageable.
  • Focus on One Side: It's generally recommended to focus on clearing and activating platforms on only one side (Sun or Moon) to maximize the power of its respective guardian and make the final boss fight easier.
  • Damage Type: If you struggle against a specific damage type (fire or cold), choose the opposite side to empower a guardian that resists that damage type, making the final boss potentially less threatening.

Additional Notes:

  • The Twilight Temple Moon Temple is a medium-tier map and can be suitable for players at various experience levels, depending on their gear and build.
  • Understanding the Sun and Moon mechanic adds a strategic layer to the map and allows you to tailor the boss fight to your character's strengths.

Layout

The map is a large indoor area, with the right side being daytime at Solaris Temple and the left side being night time at Lunaris Temple. (Sometimes it is swapped however, right is Lunaris and left is Solaris )

Each side contains 3 rooms with a button of the sun or moon in the middle. Walking over it triggers an ambush of monsters. The northmost area contains two buttons which activate a portal, leading to either Helial, the Day Unending on the sun side or Selenia, the Endless Night on the moon side. This portal cannot be changed once either boss is activated; you can kill either of the two bosses in a map.

Helial, the Day Unending will always drop Invictus Solaris and Selenia, the Endless Night will always drop Vix Lunaris.

Encounters

Boss

  • Helial, the Day Unending
  • Selenia, the Endless Night

There are 6 sidebosses. The Celestial orb forms of Helial and Selenia (untargetable, beat them by clearing all adds), as well as Aloris, the First Light, Nebria, the Last Light (based on unique Solar/Lunar soliders (themselves are converted Blackguards) from Solaris/Lunaris Concourses), Opid, Helial's Herald and Arteth, Selenia's Herald (based on Harbingers of Solaris/Lunaris),

Player can choose either Helial OR Selenia AFTER finish the all 6 side bosses fights. The selection is triggered by standing on relevant pressure plate (blue = Selenia, red = Helial)
