Flavour Text: The eldritch storm descended upon us, and bruised lightning rained down. Metal withered and flesh melted before its arcane power. There was no escape, no shelter. Only despair.

PoE 3.20: The Voltaxic Rift Unique Bow no longer has 10% chance to Shock, existing versions of this Unique are unaffected. It now has "Adds 1 to 600-750 Lightning Damage" (previously 1 to 275-325), and 100% of Lightning Damage Converted to Chaos Damage (previously 60%). Existing versions of this Unique can be updated to the new values using a Divine Orb.

Mechanics

+40% to maximum effect of shock is an additive Modifier that increases Shock's Maximum possible effect from the default of 50% Increased Damage Taken to 90% Increased Damage Taken and stacks with other sources of +X% to maximum effect of shock. It is different to X% increased Effect of Shock which effectively reduces the amount of damage needed to apply both a minimum and a maximum shock.

Interactions

Combined with certain items, Voltaxic Rift can allow 100% of the Lightning damage the player inflicts to be converted to Chaos damage.

  • A Phantasmal Spark Gem has 40% of Lightning Damage Converted to Chaos Damage at 20% Quality.

The following Gems can achieve the required 40% of Lightning Damage Converted to Chaos Damage by boosting the Gem's quality via items such as the Crest of Desire or Ashes of the Stars.

  • An Anomolous Crackling Lance Gem has 20% of Lightning Damage Converted to Chaos Damage at 20% Quality.
