Headhunter PoE

PoE Headhunter

The Headhunter is a unique Leather Belt in Path of Exile, considered one of the rarest and most powerful items in the game. It's coveted by players for its ability to steal mods from slain rare monsters and grant those mods to the wearer for 20 seconds. This can include incredible offensive boosts like increased attack speed, critical strike chance, and damage, as well as defensive benefits like life regeneration and resistances.

Here's a breakdown of what you need to know about the Headhunter:

Acquisition:

  • The Headhunter can drop anywhere in Path of Exile, but the drop rate is incredibly low.
  • There are several other ways to acquire it, but they're also quite challenging:
    • Chance orbs: Using an enormous amount of Chance orbs and Scouring orbs on unique belts.
    • Ancient orbs: Rolling unique belts with Ancient orbs, with an average of 430 orbs needed.
    • Divination cards: Certain divination cards, like The Demon's Gambit, have a small chance to drop a Headhunter when completed.

Effects:

  • When you kill a rare monster, you gain all of its monster modifiers for 20 seconds. This means you can temporarily become incredibly powerful by chaining kills of strong rares.
  • The effects you gain stack with your existing modifiers, creating devastating offensive and defensive combos.
  • Some negative modifiers are excluded, like curses and hexes, so you'll only benefit from the positives.

Impact on builds:

  • The Headhunter is most impactful on builds that can kill rares quickly and efficiently. This often involves strong AoE skills and high movement speed.
  • It requires adapting your playstyle to focus on maximizing the uptime of the stolen mods.
  • While powerful, the Headhunter is expensive and challenging to acquire and utilize. It's not recommended for beginner players.

Additional information:

  • The Headhunter received a buff in Path of Exile 3.18, with the duration of stolen mods increased from 20 to 60 seconds.
  • There are also Vaal implicit effects you can get by corrupting the belt, potentially increasing its power even further.
  • The price of a Headhunter varies greatly depending on the league and its economy.

This means they can drop from any sufficiently high-level monster, without you having to engage with specialised content. The goal with all of these changes is to make sure that every monster you kill in Path of Exile has a chance to drop something incredibly valuable, regardless of what content you're playing.
