Tips

  • A tattoo is a type of currency item that can be received as a reward from the Trial of the Ancestors in the Ancestor league. They are applied to specific types of passive skills on the passive skill tree to transform the passive into a different one.
  • Tattoos can be replaced by applying another tattoo or removed using an Orb of Scouring on the passive.
  • You must have the passive skill allocated in order to apply a tattoo to it. Unallocating the passive does not remove the tattoo.
  • Each character can have up to 50 tattoos applied.
  • Special tattoo types have additional restrictions or conditions:
    • Makanga tattoos only grant effects when you have either one or fewer adjacent passive allocated or 7+ connected passives (including Keystones) allocated, depending on the tattoo type.
      • Locations where tattoos with "Requires 7 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated" can be placed are circled on the attached image.
    • Loyalty tattoos are limited to 1.
    • Attribute notable honured tattoos are limited to 1.

How to get Tattoos?

PoE Passive Skill Tattoos

You earn rewards for each match you win. In addition to a selection of regular items that may be offered, there are some exclusive new rewards that you can only get from the Trial of the Ancestors. Passive Tree Tattoos are one such reward. These are not applied to your skin but are instead engraved on your soul. Applying your tattoo will change what the attribute skills on your passive tree do.

How to remove or replace Tattoos?

A Tattoo can be removed with an Orb of Scouring Orb of Scouring or by replacing it with another Tattoo.

How do the new tattoos interact with timeless jewels?

Timeless jewels that add stats to passives such as Lethal Pride of Brutal Restraint will add those stats to Tattooed passives.
Timeless jewels that change passives to be different passives such as Elegant Hubris or Glorious Vanity take precedence over Tattoos

Interactions

  • Notable Passives which are anointed will reflect the tattoo's stats and not the original notable.
  • Items that allow passives to be allocated without being connected to your tree, such as Impossible Escape, and Thread of Hope can allow efficient placement of tattoos, especially those with "Maximum 1 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated".
  • Unnatural Instinct will grant the effects of tattoos on small unallocated passives.
  • Might of the Meek and Warrior's Tale increase the effects of tattoo stats.
  • Lethal Pride, Brutal Restraint, Militant Faith (non-transformed passives only), and Chieftain's Ngamahu, Flame's Advance grant their respective stats in addition to stats from the tattoo.
    • Transformed passives (Glorious Vanity, Elegant Hubris, Militant Faith (transformed notables), attribute conversion jewels, etc.) prevent/disable tattoos from applying.
