Mechanic: in Path of Exile: Expedition, you will join the Kalguuran expedition, excavate their lost relics and undead using chains of explosives, then barter, deal and gamble these relics with their merchants.
Excavated Chest has three tiers: white, yellow, and red. Red Excavated Chest contains the most valuable items.
Opening an Excavated Chest has no risk. All you need to do is by placing the Chest into its circle. Excavated Chest contains Expedition artifacts, currency items, Armour, Blight, Breach, Divination, Expedition Logbooks, etc. You can obtain more specific items by adding Excavated Chests Remnant Mods, such as 50% increased Quantity of Expedition Logbooks found in Excavated Chests. |

There are many different Expedition monsters, include normal Monster, Magic Monster, Rare Monster, Runic Monster, etc. The bigger the monster is, the more rewards you will get.
You must firstly kill monsters, then loot their items. Different from Heist, if you die, you can play again and get their loots. The monster rewards include Expedition artifacts, Logbooks, currency items, different gears, etc. You can obtain more specific items by adding Monster Remnant Mods, such as 50% increased Quantity of Expedition Logbooks dropped by Runic Monsters. |

Firstly, check all the Excavated Chests, Monsters, and Remnant Mods. Then, decide how to place explosives.
The start explosive is near the NPC. The remaining number of Placement is shown at the bottom. You can undo Placement(Shift + V).
For the chest, always choose the red Excavated Chest.
The top of Remnant shows its modifiers and it increases the difficulty of killing monsters. The bottom of Remnant shows its rewards.
According to your main DPS skill, you must avoid one of these mods:
Explosive mechanic: Modifiers from Remnants are applied to Monsters and Chests that are excavated from the explosive that destroys the Remnant and all subsequent Explosives.
Refresh currency is used to refresh a specific NPC’s inventory. For example, Exotic Coinage refreshes Tujen’s inventory. Astragali has the highest drop rate, while Exotic Coinage and Burial Medallion have the highest value.
In contrast with Tier 1 currency, Tier 4 currency can be used to exchange more valuable items.
Expedition Logbook is a larger expedition area and can have 20 explosive circles. It rewards the best items and fights expedition boss there.
Gwennen offers a gambling service. Instead of buying items, you get an item by gambling. Normally, you will get a magic item, sometimes it may be a rare item. Rarely, you can get a unique item. If you are lucky enough, you may gamble Leather Belt for a Headhunter.
You will also notice that, in some cases, you find may get a worse item. Astragali refreshes Gwennen’s inventory to a new set of items appropriate for your character level. That is said, when you have a higher level, you can get a better item. There are some good base types, such as Leather Belt for Headhunter, Chain Belt for Coward’s Legacy, Cloth Belt for The Torrent’s Reclamation, Sapphire Ring for Uzaza’s Valley, Jade Amulet for The Pandemonius, Amber Amulet for Xoph’s Blood, etc. |
Haggle currency and valuable items with Tujen. You offer a price, then Tujen provides a new price… until the deal is complete. Notice that if your offer is too low, Tujen may withdraw back the item.
In contrast to Gwennen or Rog, Tujen’s inventory is more valuable. You can get Chaos Orbs, Sextant, Blueprint, Fossils, Jewels with good stats, and other items here. Exotic Coinage refreshes Tujen’s inventory to a new set of items appropriate for your character level. The price of Exotic Coinage is expensive. It drops from the chest or monsters at the Expedition encounter. Sometimes, refresh Dannig’s inventory and you may find an Exotic Coinage there. Dannig offers an Artifact exchange service. It is a useful source for Tujen’s trade currency items. |
Buy an item from Rog, then upgrade it or take it directly. The cost of an item includes a purchase fee and an upgrade fee.
If the upgrade result is not good, you can skip it, then get a new upgrade. For example, skip “Reroll Suffixes 6 times, keeping the best outcome“, it may get “Reroll Suffixes 10 times, keeping the best outcome.” Scrap Metal Refreshes Rog’s inventory to a new set of items appropriate for your character level. |
Dannig is the leader of Expedition NPCs. He offers an Artifact exchange service. Normally, the exchange rate is 1:1. Sometimes, Dannig offers Artifact at a discount. Sometimes, Dannig sells NPC’s refresh currency, such as Exotic Coinage, Scrap Metal, Astragali. You may get Expedition Logbook here as well.
Burial Medallion refreshes Dannig’s inventory to a new set of items appropriate for your character level. Dannig also provides the Expedition Logbook opening service. |
Find an Expedition Logbook, craft its mods like a map, bring it to Dannig and choose a location for your next Expedition. These Expeditions are much larger than regular ones and harbour many mysteries to explore, if you dare.
Just like how a Blighted Map was one giant Blight encounter with no natural monsters, the Expedition you go on from a logbook is one giant Expedition.
Expeditions from logbooks are not only different because of their large size, but because there are special objects that you can interact with using the explosives. For example, trees that contain monsters or items, passageways that reveal chests or bosses, and so on. Speaking of bosses, there are some formidable ones for you to seek out, and a set of valuable new unique items and base types that can only come from Expedition content.
While planning your chain of explosives in a Logbook Expedition, you should consider detonating various destructible objects. Such obstacles might be blocking secret passages leading to ancient, terrifying bosses and their valuable treasures.
