Eldritch Battery PoE

Eldritch Battery (EB) is definitely an interesting and powerful keystone with some unique trade-offs to consider. Here's a breakdown of its effects:

Benefits:

  • Improved Mana Sustainability: By prioritizing energy shield (ES) for skill mana costs, you can effectively make your ES pool act as a secondary mana pool. This can be hugely beneficial for builds that use skills with high mana costs, allowing you to cast them more frequently without worrying about running out of mana.
  • Stronger Defensive Layers: Since ES takes damage before your life pool, it acts as an additional buffer against incoming attacks. This can significantly boost your overall survivability, especially with high ES regeneration or recovery mechanics.
  • Synergy with Certain Skills and Mechanics: EB opens up unique interactions with skills and mechanics that scale with ES or are triggered by taking damage. Some notable examples include Ghost Dance (converts evasion into ES on hit), Zealot's Oath (regenerates ES based on life regen), and Pain Attunement (grants increased damage while ES is low).

Drawbacks:

  • Reduced Regeneration: EB comes with a 50% penalty to ES recharge rate. This can significantly slow down your ES recovery, requiring you to invest in additional sources of ES regen or focus on ways to avoid taking frequent damage.
  • Investment Cost: Utilizing EB effectively often requires specific gear and passive skill allocations to address the reduced regen and potential mana issues. This can be more demanding compared to traditional life-based builds.
  • Less Intuitive Gameplay: Shifting your defensive focus from life to ES can require a change in playstyle. Understanding your ES recovery mechanics and actively managing your resource pools becomes crucial.

**Overall, EB is a powerful keystone that can enable unique and potent builds, but it's not without its challenges. Carefully consider its costs and benefits before incorporating it into your character plan.

Eldritch Battery - Path of Exile

Eldritch Battery is a keystone passive skill. It makes energy shield protect mana instead of life. However, it reduces Energy Shield Recharge Rate by 50%.

  • Spend Energy Shield before Mana for Skill Costs
  • Energy Shield protects Mana instead of Life
  • 50% less Energy Shield Recharge Rate

Energy shield protects mana instead of life. All modifiers to energy shield apply normally. However, it is not affected by modifiers to mana or mana regeneration.

Any reductions to mana (e.g. skill costs) will instead reduce energy shield by the same amount.

Players lose this chance to ignore a stun with the Eldritch Battery keystone node.

Energy shield recharge

Energy shield will automatically begin to recharge if the character does not take any damage for a certain period of time. Spending energy shield with Blood Magic, Eldritch Battery or sacrifice mechanic does not count as taking damage. By default, the delay period for energy shield to begin to recharge is 2 seconds. This can be reduced with #% faster start of Energy Shield Recharge modifiers from passive skills and equipment.

Energy Shield Recharge is not interrupted by non-damage changes to your Life or Energy Shield, such as when you spend your Energy Shield on skills via Eldritch Battery.

Energy shield recharge and recovery through Zealot’s Oath or Ghost Reaver function normally.
