Blessing Support Gem – Path of Exile

PoE 3.17 releases Blessing as a Support gem, to make the mechanic available to builds that are not using the March of the Legion March of the Legion unique item. This is intended to be useful for high-mana-use characters who wish to leave their mana unreserved and for characters using the Blood Magic keystone.

PoE Blessing Support Gem

Blessing is a Support Gem.

  • Aura Lasts 11.4 seconds
  • Reservation Lasts 0.2 seconds
  • Non-Curse Auras from Supported Skills have 12% increased Effect

Supported aura skills reserve your mana for a very short duration and grant their effect for a longer duration. It adds a cast time to the auras. Both the mana reservation and aura duration are affected by Skill Effect Duration. Auras can be supported other support gems. Arrogance Support Arrogance Support helps to activate the Low life condition. Blasphemy Support Blasphemy Support turns Curses into temporary auras.

Cannot support War Banner War Banner or Dread Banner Dread Banner.

PoE 3.19 Changes

Problem: Divine Blessing Support is intended to allow characters who do not wish to reserve much of their mana to still use an aura by casting the aura for a normal mana cost every few seconds. The cost of the supported aura is calculated based on that aura's original reservation requirement, and therefore usually requires spending a large portion of your maximum mana. However, due to technical limitations, the cost is still calculated based on the size of your mana pool if it paid using life. This allows players who are reserving most of their mana to support an aura with both Divine Blessing Support and Lifetap Support, and occasionally spend a few thousand life to gain an extra aura beyond the amount they would otherwise be able to run.

Solution: Prevent Lifetap Support from supporting Blessing skills, to match its counterpart Arrogance Support. Provide slight compensation for this change on Divine Blessing Support, and update Eternal Blessing Support to match.
  • Blessing Skills can no longer be supported by Lifetap.
  • Skills supported by Divine Blessing Support now have 10% increased Aura Effect at gem level 1 (previously 0%), up to 29% at gem level 20 (previously 19%).
  • Eternal Blessing Support now grants Supported Skills 0% increased Aura Effect at gem level 1 (previously 19% reduced), up to 19% increased at gem level 20 (previously 0% increased).

Build Guide

  • Auras supported by blessing support reserve mana and therefore do not count as spent mana. This only matters for bonuses to mana spent recently from things like Indigon Indigon.
  • Mana Builds – Some game mechanics encourage certain builds to not reserve any mana, because they use most or all of their mana. Some examples include: Mind over matter, ManastormIndigon Indigon and Archmage Support Archmage Support.
    • Blessing support allows these builds to have up to 4 auras without permanently reserving any mana, so long as they are recast when their duration expires.
    • Increasing the duration will make the recasting of auras occur less often.
    • Increasing the duration will increase the time that the mana is considered temporarily reserved also, however the base duration is so low that the difference is negligible.
  • Temporary Auras – All socketed auras are temporary and therefore not permanently reserving mana. This allows players to use more auras while under the effect of Supreme Ego.

March of the Legion Problem:

March of the Legion March of the Legion is a very low-cost method to gain four extra auras on some builds due to the change where Mana is not being required in order to cast an aura. It also took full advantage of the Supreme Ego keystone in a way that goes against the intent of the mechanic and gained a significant amount of power in the process.

Solution:

Rework the Blessing mechanic of March of the Legion March of the Legion to limit the number of Blessings you can have to one. Change the skill to cost mana instead of temporarily reserving mana. The process of making this change also highlighted a number of problems with other mechanics which has led to a ripple effect of other changes being required.

Release Blessing as a Support gem, to make the mechanic available to builds that are not using the unique item. This is intended to be useful for high-mana-use characters who wish to leave their mana unreserved and for characters using the Blood Magic keystone.

Improve the aura level granted by March of the Legion March of the Legion so the item excels at using a Blessing aura.

Remove Mortal Conviction and the life passives from behind the Blood Magic keystone and make a Mortal Conviction-style support gem that makes an aura free, and prevents you reserving mana. It will be mutually exclusive with Blessing skills, so you won’t be able to use both simultaneously. This support gem provides slightly less aura effect to the skill than the Blessing Support but has no cost or upkeep involved.

Change Blood Magic to also grant 10% more life to compensate for the removal of the efficient life passives behind the keystone.

Change Supreme Ego to not limit you to one aura and instead give more aura effect based on how much mana an aura reserves.
