Soul Link Soul Link is a link skill.

Targets an allied player to apply a buff which links you to them for a duration. While linked, your Energy Shield will intercept some of the damage they would take. If the target dies while linked, you will also die. This skill cannot be triggered, or used by Totems, Traps, or Mines.Your Energy Shield also protects the linked target from some of the damage they would take from hits.Some of the damage from hits dealt to you will instead be taken from the Energy Shield of this link"s source.

Spell, Duration, Link. Level: 1–20. Cost: 15–32.67 Mana per second. Cast Time: 0.50 sec. Requires Level 34.

  • Base duration is (8–9.9) seconds
  • Linked target takes (5–14)% less Damage
  • 30% of Damage from Hits against target is taken from your Energy Shield before them
  • Link breaks if target leaves range or line of sight for 4 seconds
    Maximum 1 Link from any source per target
    You die if Linked target dies

Tip: This new gem is designed for party play. This skill creates a bond between you and a specific party member, providing a big benefit to them while they stay within range, but with the very important drawback that if they die, so do you.

To best use this skill, you or your party member must build a tanky character with a lot of energy shield.

Let’s take a level 1 gem as an example:

  1. It is useful for party play. It can link one party member.
  2. The base duration is 8 seconds.
  3. It protects your target by causing 30% of damage they are dealt to be applied to your energy shield instead.
  4. If you have built a tanky character with a lot of energy shield, then you and your target will be protected by it.
  5. It cannot be used by Totems, Traps, or Mines.
  6. Cannot normally be used with your minions. Minion Defence Mastery(Link Skills can target Minions) passive skill allows you to use this skill with them. However, this has a high ongoing mana cost that is difficult to stay on top of.
  7. Note that if your party member die, you will die.

Link Mastery

Link Mastery is a mastery passive skill.

  • Enemies inflict Elemental Ailments on you instead of Linked targets
  • 20% increased Damage per Linked target
  • Your Lined Targets take 5% reduced Damage
  • Enemies near your Linked targets have Fire, Cold and Lightning Exposure

PoE 3.16 does include significant nerfs to "aurabot" characters who stack auras for the benefit of their party members, these Link skills give them a viable more-active playstyle.
