Bonechill Support is a support gem that grants the supported skill more cold damage and increased chill effect. Enemies take also increased cold damage from all sources based on the magnitude of the chill effect applied by the skill. Supports any skill that can chill enemies or create chilling areas. Cold, Support. Level: 1–20. Cost & Reservation Multiplier: 130%. Requires Level 38.
This is a Support Gem. It does not grant a bonus to your character, but to skills in sockets connected to it. Place into an item socket connected to a socket containing the Active Skill Gem you wish to augment. Right click to remove from a socket.

We've investigated this internally and have found that this behaviour was due to an optimisation that was introduced in 3.15. It can affect anything that adds an effect to things while your ailment is on them (e.g. Combustion, Bonechill, Taryn's Shiver, etc.). We've found that it only affects elemental ailments and that the order ailments are inflicted is not important but the remaining duration can be.
The optimisation we made is that elemental ailments are discarded if they can never become the active one affecting the enemy. An ailment is only discarded this way if there is at least one stronger ailment suppressing it which also has equal or longer duration (so the weaker one can never be "promoted" to active by outlasting the stronger one). Ailments usually having matching durations is why players are reaching conclusions about order mattering - the most recent ailment will usually have the most remaining duration, and thus not be discarded.
We plan to fix this behaviour so ailments with these kinds of extra effects tied to them are not discarded this way. The fix for this won't make it in time for release but we'll aim to get it out in a patch following it.

The chill must be caused by a skill, regardless of whether the cold damage originates from a piece of gear, or the skill gem itself. If the enemy is affected by multiple sources of chill, (for example, Vortex both hits and creates a chilling area) only the strongest chill magnitude will be taken into account. Notably, sources of chill such as Aquamarine Flask will not provide a damage bonus, since a flask is not a skill (thus cannot be linked to support gems).
Chill, and therefore the effect of Bonechill, is capped at 30%. A chill that reduces Action Speed by 14% will cause the enemy to take 14% increased Cold Damage. Since freeze is considered a separate ailment, it will not impart any additional damage bonus.
Similarly to Combustion Support and Maim Support, Bonechill does not need to be linked to the player's main skill to apply its "increased damage taken" effects. This means that Bonechill can be applied by a secondary utility skill that activates on Cast when Damage Taken Support (such as Vortex or Cold Snap), while the player's main skill uses a more powerful gem such as Elemental Focus Support.
Bonechill Support can drop anywhere. Drop level: 38.
