Build Guide

Trickster's Soul Drinker and Essentia Sanguis provide overleech for energy shield, allowing permanent uptime of the shock modifier.

The magnitude of chill is relevant for a few mechanics such as Call of the Void, Heatshiver, or Bonechill Support.

Self-ailment interactions

Unaffected by Chill while Leeching Mana prevents the player from utilizing reverse chill mechanics from Winterweave. However, it is still possible to benefit from other sources of effects while chilled while avoiding its downside, such as The Fulcrum's Damage Penetrates (8-10)% Elemental Resistances while you are Chilled modifier.

Manabond and Arcane Cloak can be used to drain Mana.

Likewise, Unaffected by Shock while Leeching Energy Shield prevents the player from benefiting from shock damage scaling from self-inflicted Galvanic Field (due to reducing effective Shock Effect on you to 0), but allows effects such as The Fulcrum's Elemental Damage with Hits is Lucky while you are Shocked without using equipment slots for Replica Winterheart or Inpulsa's Broken Heart.

Additionally, it can be used to safely proliferate shocks from yourself using Maligaro's Restraint for Lightning Conduit, especially in combination with a way to drain and leech energy shield such as Eldritch Battery (The Devouring Diadem), Mind Over Matter, Divine Blessing Support, and Energy Leech Support.

It is still possible to benefit from Winterweave's reverse chill while using the Ignite/Chill/Shock benefits from The Fulcrum by simply avoiding getting any mana leech. Pure spellcasters avoid this problem entirely.

+X to Maximum Energy Shield

Energy shield is a form of defence that acts as an additional hit point pool on top of life. Along with armour and evasion, energy shield is one of the three defence types that can implicitly appear on equipment. Unlike life, energy shield will recharge naturally after the character has not taken any damage for 2 seconds.

+X to Maximum Mana

Mana is spent to activate skills, and is shown on the bottom right of the screen as a blue orb. It recovers slowly over time, but can be refilled quickly with flasks.

X% Increased Effect of Chill you inflict while leeching mana

Leech recovers an amount of life, mana, or energy shield over time, relative to the damage inflicted on an enemy. Leech is based on the damage taken by the enemy, not the amount of life removed.

Chill is an elemental ailment inherent to cold that applies a slow effect to the character, reducing the animation speed at which the character plays.

X% Increased Effect of Shocks you inflict while leeching energy shield

Shock is an elemental ailment associated with lightning that causes the affected target to take increased damage from all sources.

Unaffected by chill while leeching mana

Unaffected by shock while leeching energy shield

All leech mechanics act the same way for life, mana, and energy shield. Examples in this article use life, but if the character has equal statistics for a different resource (mana or energy shield), they will apply in the same way.

Whenever a character with some source of leech hits a monster, a leech instance is created. Hitting multiple enemies with a single use of a skill creates that many leech instances.

Life Leech instances have the following properties by default:

  • Each instance is independent.
  • Multiple leech instances stack and apply simultaneously.
  • There is no limit to the possible number of active leech instances
  • Each instance Recovers the character’s life for the Damage Dealt * % damage Leeched as Life up to a maximum of 10% of maximum life.
  • Each instance Recovers at a rate of 2% of maximum life per second.
  • Each instance Recovers until the total amount of leeched damage was recovered or the character reaches full unreserved life.
  • The total recovery rate of all life leech instances is limited to 20% of maximum life per second (10% for energy shield). The extra healing over that cap will be ignored.

Leech grants recovery to the entity that hits the target. If a minion or totem with leech hits another monster the leech will grant recovery to that minion or totem only, not the character. Leech on a trap or mine has no effect, as the source of the hit has no life to recover.

Default Leech limitations between different resources.

Resource Leech Cap LPS Total LPS
Life 10% 2% 20%
Energy Shield 10% 2% 10%
Mana 10% 2% 20%
