The Pillars of Arun is a unique Dunes Map in Path of Exile known for its platforming challenge and focus on movement skills. Here's a breakdown of its key features:

Layout and Mechanics:

  • Pillars of Arun consists of several large platforms separated by smaller platforms.
  • You'll need a movement skill like Flame Dash, Leap Slam, or Lightning Warp to traverse these gaps.

  • Limited Jumping: There's no natural jumping ability in Path of Exile, so relying solely on your movement skill is crucial.
  • Whirlwinds: Smaller platforms periodically spawn whirlwinds that damage you if you linger. Be quick when crossing them.
  • Proximity Shields: Large platforms are surrounded by proximity shields, preventing you from attacking enemies on the platform before landing on it.
  • This forces you to take some damage when clearing each area.

  • The boss of the map doesn't have a unique name but has a chance to drop the unique helmet, Gorgon's Gaze.

  • Pillars of Arun offers increased experience gain and a chance for valuable currency and items like other maps.
  • However, the main focus is on the challenging platforming experience.

  • Movement Skill Choice: Pick a movement skill you're comfortable with and that has a short cooldown. Flame Dash is a popular option.
  • Movement Speed: Gear and buffs that increase your movement speed can be helpful for navigating the platforms more efficiently.
  • Flasks: Utilize Quicksilver Flasks for short bursts of speed to quickly cross platforms or dodge whirlwinds.
  • Prioritize Movement: Focus on reaching the next platform quickly instead of lingering on small platforms to minimize taking damage from whirlwinds.

Additional Notes:

  • Pillars of Arun comes in tiers, with difficulty and monster level increasing at higher tiers.
  • The map can be frustrating for new players due to the heavy reliance on movement skills.
  • However, for experienced players with good movement skill proficiency, it can be a rewarding and fast experience for gaining levels or farming currency.

Pillars of Arun is a series of platforms populated by monsters, separated by smaller platforms. Players must use a movement skill (i.e. Flame Dash or Lightning Warp) to cross between platforms. Each small platform also intermittently spawns a whirlwind which will damage the player while remaining on the small platform.

Each large platform is surrounded by a proximity shield, so it's not possible to kill the monsters before being on the platform, unless you have a proxy (eg. totem) to deal damage. Because of this, players should expect to get hit when arriving on each platform.

The Boss has a chance to drop Gorgon's Gaze.
