Runewords for Barbarian — Diablo 2 Resurrected

Rune Words are a type of item created when specific combinations of runes are inserted into socketed items. When the rune word is completed, it looks much like a unique item with the only notable difference that the runes show if the the player moves the mouse over the inventory image.

The runes must be inserted into the item in the correct order and the item must be a socketed item (meaning it must have a grey name, it doesn’t work on unique/set/rare/magic items that also have sockets). The socketed item must also have the exact number of sockets required by the rune word. If these conditions are not met, the rune word will not be created and the player has potentially wasted the runes in question on a useless item. The bonuses that each individual rune confers will still be applied to the item, but the added rune word bonuses will not.

Runewords for Barbarian Tips

  • When you create Rune Word, you still receive all the magical bonuses that were already on each Rune you socketed.
  • The socketed item you are using must have the EXACT number of sockets as the Rune Word formula you are attempting to socket. 
  • Runewords only work in Socketed non-magical items. This rules out Set Items, Unique Items, Rare Items or Magic Items.
  • The Socketed item type MUST be the correct item type. If the formula requires an Axe, it won’t work if you decide to use a Spear or a Sword.
  • The correct Runes for a formula must be used. If you by some chance, decide to replace a Rune or use another one because you lack the proper one, you will receive the bonuses of the equipped Runes but it won’t become a Runewords
  • The Runes MUST be placed in the correct order to trigger the Rune Word. Doing it in an incorrect order will prevent the Rune Word to activate, and will only grant you the single Runes benefits.

Barbarian Guide
