Stone Skin is one of the attributes that Unique Monsters can spawn with in Diablo II. This attribute is basically the physical mirror of the Magic Resistant attribute. If a monster spawns with both, you’re in for one hell of a fight.
What It Does
This attribute adds 50% physical resistance to the monster. Basically, you’ll be doing half damage against it with any physical attacks (including ranged ones, like arrows or throwing knives). This bonus is boosted to 100% in Nightmare and Hell, essentially making it immune to physical damage.
Tips
When fighting a monster with Stone Skin, try to use elemental attacks. If you have a weapon socketed with some gems or elemental damage runes, now is the time to use it.
Physical attacks still work against these guys in normal difficulty, so don’t hesitate to chip away at them with a sword if you have no alternatives.
Once you hit Nightmare and Hell, these guys become a bit deadlier. If you have any way to cast Decrepify or Amplify Damage make sure to use it, as it can break the physical immunity.
If you can’t do this, fall back on an elemental, magical, or poisonous attack.
