Greater hydralisk down Complete Act 2 15

List of D2R Achievements Guide.

The final boss of Act 2 is Duriel. This achievement will pop upon killing him. He is located in Tal Rasha’s Chamber. And he will attack you as soon as you load into the zone, so go in prepared, there’s no chance to set up a favorable area here like there is with Andariel.

Duriel is considered by some the most difficult boss of the game because his room is very small, his attacks are powerful and fast, and he has an aura which chills and slows you, making it impossible to run/kite unless you break free. In the original game the loading time for the chamber would be enough for you to get charged, chilled and sometimes even killed before you’d finished loading in!

Similar to fighting Andariel, visiting the vendors beforehand can help immensely. Lysander in Lut Gholein will sell thawing potions which will reduce the damage that Duriel’s attacks do, though they won’t do much to break his freezing aura, so you’ll still be slowed. Or be re-chilled nearly instantaneously.

It’s also highly advisable to take a Desert Mercenary, hired from Griez, with you. If you have him equipped he can tank Duriel for a little bit and give you some breathing room.

This trophy requires you to complete the entirety of Lut Gholein the sandy desert continent. There are yet again another 6 quests to undertake in this area except for only 1 quest is optional. To complete this act you need to first piece together the Horadric Staff by finding the two main pieces the “Kings Staff” and the “Viper Amulet”. But in order to combine them, you need to collect the horadric cube. This handy item you will use a ton on your adventure so always keep in on your for some extra storage space or stash away.
Below is a walkthrough of this section:

  • To collect the Horadric cube you need to locate the Halls of the dead which is located in the Dry Hills. Upon exploring this place you will encounter a shambled tomb, enter it and begin your journey through the halls of the dead down to level 3. When you reach level 3 you will make your way through the map to a room with a glowing chest surrounded by enemies, kill them and open the chest to claim your cube.
  • The “Kings Staff” is located in the Far Oasis in an underground lair called the Maggots Lair. Upon Entering the maggot lair there will be a winding and twisting tunnel of bloody maggots and beetles you will have to carve your way through until you reach the next area down. There are a total of 3 floors in this area with Maggot Lair level 3 being the last. On the 3rd floor, you will find the maggot queen sitting next to a chest. You can choose to kill her for some loot and gold or just loot the chest and claim your staff and town portal out back to town.
  • The “Viper Amulet” is located in the Valley of Snakes which is in a small break in the wall in the Lost City area of the map. Walking around the edges of the map in Lost City you will be sure to encounter this place, enter the temple and begin your trek to the 2nd floor of the Claw Viper Temple. Upon reaching the 2nd floor you will encounter an Altar surrounded by a bunch of snakes and enemies. Slay them all and kick the altar to receive the viper amulet.
  • Now that you have recovered both of the pieces place them both in your horadric cube by themselves and press the transmute button on the cube page just below the pieces. With the horadric staff now reforged its time to talk to Drognan, after speaking with him he tells you to speak to Jerhyn which tells you to explore the depths of his palace cellar. Exploring the palace cellar you will descend a total of 4 levels until you reach the portal to the Arcane sanctuary in the middle of the room.
  • After taking the portal to the arcane sanctuary you will be teleported to a new place in what looks like outer space but will be tasked with choosing a direction out of 4 possible ways, north, east, south, and west. We are looking for the path that leads to the summoner with the tomb of Tal Rasha at the end. The best thing to do here is to pick a direction and hope you get it right the first time, if not then just think of it as extra exp you gained. You might get lucky and get it first try or the summoner could be on the last and final way you go it’s all RNG.
  • After killing the summoner your quest log will update, read the tomb and take the red portal to the canyon of the magi. Inspect your quest book by pressing start and selecting your quest log from the menu. under the last quest in the book, it will show you the true symbol to the correct tomb of Tal Rasha.
  • There are 7 tombs located around the entire outside of the canyon of magi with the symbols located on the outside of each entrance marked on a small rock or pillar just outside of the doors. Be sure to pay attention though some of these can be really tough to see or make out so pick the correct one that matches the symbol on your quest log.

After entering the correct tomb you will make your way through it and end at an object called the Oriface, when you click on it you will have to place the staff you created earlier inside of it to unlock the passageway to the boss called Duriel. Once you fight it out with Duriel head to the back of the cave and free the archangel Tyreal from the chains. Head back to town and talk to Jheryn the prince and make your way to Mishief to be taken to the Kurast Docks in Act 3
Notable things about the Boss Duriel:

  • He comes equipped with an aura called Holy Freeze, this will freeze you and make you attack extremely slow and run very slow.
  • You can’t counter the frozen state unless you have an item that has “cannot be frozen” on it, but you can make his cold attacks hurt less by drinking a bunch of “Thawing potions” from the chemist Lysander in town and stacking cold resistance on your gear.
  • He attacks extremely fast and his attacks almost always land consecutively, his attacks are also cold damage which you can mitigate through cold resistance.
  • His health pool is fairly low so he should take much effort to bring down just keep the damage up and use your potions when you need to and you should kill him pretty easy.

You have completed act 2. Congratulations!
