Cast On Critical Strike Support PoE Build

Cast On Critical Strike Support (commonly referred to as CoC) is a support gem that causes linked spells to trigger when the player scores a critical strike with the attack skill it is linked to.

Must support both an attack skill and a spell skill to work. The attack skill will trigger a spell when it critically strikes an enemy. Cannot support totems, traps, or mines. Vaal skills, channelling skills, and skills with a reservation cannot be triggered.

This is a Support Gem. It does not grant a bonus to your character, but to skills in sockets connected to it. Place into an item socket connected to a socket containing the Active Skill Gem you wish to augment. Right click to remove from a socket.

Real Cooldown & Cooldown Threshold

There is an internal cooldown to how fast spells can be triggered.

Currently, the cooldown is 150ms, however:

Servers do not calculate the game in real-time but divide it into chunks that are calculated at once.
One of these server calculation steps is called a tick. A server tick has a duration of 33 milliseconds.
The status of cooldowns is only updated once on each server tick.
Due to the limitation to server ticks, cooldowns are effectively always rounded up to multiples of 33ms.

The thresholds in the table below are meant to be upper limits. If you stay below them, you do not need to increase your trigger rate. However, it usually is an efficient DPS upgrade, but going above them is something you must not do.

If the attack you use to trigger your spells is just slightly too fast and your spells are still on cooldown, you can lose up to almost half your DPS.

In case of multiple spells linked to one attack skill, this support will alternate the triggered spell.

Cooldown Time

When a supported spell is successfully cast, it and all supported spells of the same name are put on cooldown for 162 milliseconds. This means that a given spell can only trigger once per critical strike and reduces the effect of linking multiple copies of the same spell to this support (especially when it is at a higher gem level). It is important to note that this cooldown does not apply to the gem as whole; you can trigger multiple spells within the 162 millisecond cooldown time as long as they are different.

Trigger order

Trigger gems and their linked skills are cast in a specific order that depends on which item it is equipped on and which socket the skills are in. If there are trigger gems in each equipped item, the order of operation will be:

Main hand ⇒ Amulet ⇒ Helm ⇒ Off-hand ⇒ Body armour ⇒ Gloves ⇒ Boots

Linking with other skills

At a bare minimum, a Cast On Critical Strike setup will require three gems: an attack, Cast On Critical Strike itself, and a spell to be triggered. This generally leaves at most three other supports that may be linked. If possible, the supports should both increase the number of times Cast On Critical Strike triggers, and increase the effectiveness of the triggered spells. Note that Cast On Critical Strike cannot trigger more than once per frame, so staggered hits (e.g. multiple projectiles) are preferred to simultaneous hits (e.g. most area of effect damage) which will only proc at most once per attack.
