The Ashes of the Stars Ashes of the Stars Onyx Amulet increases the level of all your skill gems and grants them an additional up to 30% quality. It also improves the reservation efficiency of your skills and lets you level all your gems faster, which is really useful for gems such as Empower Support Empower Support and Enlighten Support Enlighten Support.

The big boost to quality is very valuable with some alternate quality gems, as well as certain skills like curses.

+(10-16) to all Attributes

The three core attributes are Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. Most equipment, skill gems, and support gems have attribute requirements. A character must meet or exceed an item’s attribute requirements in order to use it.

(5–10)% increased Experience Gain of Gems

  • Socketed gems gain 10% of the experience your character earns, calculated before any level penalties.
  • The number of gems you have equipped has no effect on the rate of experience gain.
  • Gems do not lose experience when you die.
  • Items with +experience% gain do affect gems.
  • Gems socketed in inactive weapon slots do gain experience.
  • Gems may be traded like normal items and they will retain their experience.

(10–20)% increased Reservation Efficiency of Skills

Reservation Efficiency (RE) is a modifier that can modify the reservation of one or several Skill reservations. The total of all Increased Reservation Efficiency modifiers whether from passives, jewels, or items, is summed before being applied.

+(20–30)% to Quality of all Skill Gems

Both active and support skill gems may have quality. Every skill is affected by quality differently, but it frequently improves the damage dealt with the skill or provides small improvements like increased Area of Effect. Even those that do have their damage improved will see different improvement rates for a given amount of quality.

The quality of skill gems may be improved with a Gemcutter’s Prism Gemcutter’s Prism. These upgrades always improve a skill’s quality by 1%. Alternatively, a level 20 skill gem and a Gemcutter’s Prism Gemcutter’s Prism can be vendored (sold to a NPC) for a level 1 gem with 20% quality.

The effect of quality scales with the base quality effect, however, only whole numbers will be granted (and thus the effect will always be rounded down); for example 3% quality on a gem with 0.5% effect will only grant 1% effect and not 1.5% effect. Effects with some degree of fractions are rounded to their natural bases (i.e. seconds will be rounded to milliseconds, etc.).

It is possible to get a gem’s quality above 20% through corruption, the use of Enhance Support Enhance Support and certain gear.
