In Chains of Domination, you’ll be able to unlock the ability to fly over the four covenant-aligned Shadowlands zones.
Learning to fly in Chains of Domination can be unlocked in three steps:
Once you’re cleared for takeoff, you might already have finished the next step, which is to obtain Renown Level 45. Attaining this level will award you a unique flying mount, and make you a truly distinguished champion of your covenant.
Keep in mind that these mounts are for covenant members only; should you change your allegiance, you will no longer be able to ride them until you earn your previous covenant’s favor back. Additionally, once you unlock any of these mounts, all of your other characters belonging to the same covenant will be able to ride them without having the complete the previous requirements.
The Kyrian of Bastion will lift spirits on the majestic Elysian Aquilon.
The Venthyr of Revendreth will redeem sinners from above on the Sinfall Gravewing.
The Night Fae of Ardenweald will uphold the cycle of rebirth on the Ardenweald Wilderling.
The Necrolord of Maldraxxus will master war on the strong Maldraxxian Corpsefly.
Earn your wings and a special covenant-themed mount in the next major content update, Chains of Domination! Instead of challenging you with a Pathfinder achievement like in previous expansions, you’ll instead earn flying in Shadowlands early on within the newest chapters of your covenant campaign.
Upon completing a quest contained within the “The Last Sigil” storyline, you’ll be rewarded with Memories of Sunless Skies. This consumable item allows all characters on your account with Expert Riding Skill to fly in Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth!
Read on to see what you can do right now to ensure you hit the ground running so you can start soaring in Chains of Domination.
Your covenant is the wind beneath your wings, so you’ll need to prove your utmost loyalty to them by earning Renown Level 44 prior to lift off. Make sure that you are at or reach Renown Level 40 before Chains of Domination goes live, so that your efforts go directly into the levels that will become available with the content update.
If you’re struggling to reach Renown Level 40 prior to the release of Chains of Domination, note that when the content update goes live previous sources of Renown will grant more and at a higher rate than currently.
Before you unfurl your wings, you must progress through the chapters within the Chains of Domination campaign, specifically Chapter 4: “The Last Sigil.” This chapter unlocks when you reach Renown Level 44, accessible within the second week of Chains of Domination. There are currently nine chapters to complete, and you can check your current progress by opening your Map & Quest Log (hotkey: l), where it will display on the top right of the active window.
If you are unable to complete all of the current chapters, you’ll be able to play through the newest storylines in Chains of Domination so long as you’ve finished your covenant’s introductory questlines and unlocked the Runecarver. You’ll still want to complete any of the skipped chapters when you can, as they are a reliable source of Renown which you’ll need to unlock the ability to fly and other coveted rewards.
Your heroic deeds on the behalf of your covenant will also reward you with a mount fit for the most decorated covenant champions upon reaching Renown 45. Kyrian players will glide on the backs of the elysian aquilon, night fae will ride upon majestic wolf serpents, necrolords will charge into battle on corpseflies, and venthyr will take to the skies on newly awakened stoneborn.
