Mechanics

  • Recently means the last 4 seconds.
  • The mana cost modifier has no cap.
  • Sacrificed mana or toggle skill's mana reservation does not count as spent mana.
  • For the purposes of effects like Supreme Decadence, all life recovery related to a mana flask's usage while you have Indigon equipped comes from Indigon, not the flask. This means the amount of life recovered is not scaled by "increased life recovery from flasks" modifiers, nor will it be gained as Energy Shield while under the effects of Supreme Decadence or Sorrow of the Divine, but it will be affected by modifiers to Life Recovery rate.
  • "Recover (8-10)% of life when you use a Mana Flask" is not affected by Life Recovery Rate modifiers because it is instant recovery, akin to life gain on hit effects or instant flasks. While this has the downside of preventing you from scaling the recovery amount, it also prevents negative modifiers such as the Smothering map modifier, and the debuff applied by The Maven's spinning beams in her boss fight, from affecting this recovery, making it remarkably consistent.

High mana cost

Indigon's high mana cost can make you run out of mana. There are ways to do damage when you don't have mana.

  • Totems will continue to cast your spells even after you run out of mana.
  • Blade Vortex and Winter Orb will continue to deal damage after you run out of mana.
  • Vaal skills have x% Reduced Vaal Soul Cost and x% chance to gain an additional Vaal Soul on kill will allow you to use more Vaal skills when you run out of mana.
  • Free mana cost - Lavianga's Spirit, Focus while using an item with the "Non-Aura Skills Cost no Mana or Life while Focused" modifier, or Vaal Clarity. Lavianga's will allow you to spend mana again once your mana maxes out.
  • Soul Taker and Kingmaker have the modifier "Insufficient Mana does not prevent your Melee Attacks". With fast attack speed and high mana cost, you can almost always use up all your mana and never be unable to attack.

Snapshot

Spells that deal damage over time will snapshot their damage on cast. Therefore the x% increased Spell Damage they had when casted will last their entire duration. The longer the duration of the damage, the less often the player needs to spend mana to deal damage. For example:

  • A character has 50% increased Skill Effect Duration and Temporal Chains on the enemy with 65% increased Curse effect. (40 x 1.65 = 66%) (1 x 1.5 = 1.5) (1.5 / .33) = 4.5 times the debuff duration.
  • Vaal Blight and Essence Drain are debuffs that have longer durations. (6 x 4.5) = 27 seconds on Vaal Blight. (3.8 x 4.5) = 17.1 seconds on Essence Drain.
  • If the character doesn't have enough mana to cast Essence Drain after spending a lot of it to boost Indigon's spell damage, use one of the zero mana cost options listed above the moment before you cast Essence Drain for maximum damage.
  • There are many benefits to not having to spend a large amount of mana for 17 or 27 seconds. You can use Mind over Matter and/or Arcane Cloak to take advantage of the defensive benefits of your unused mana. The mana can also be used to temporarily reserve auras after all your damage over time has already been applied. Remember to remove the aura later if you use 100% of your mana for boosting spell damage.
