Flares and Dynamite

Icon Name How to use it Notes
Flares Icon Flares By pressing key 6, drops a Flare at your feet which illuminates an area around it for a duration. Fades over time. Flare Capacity, radius, and duration can be upgraded with Azurite.
Dynamite Icon Dynamite By pressing key 7, explodes at the target location after a small delay, damaging nearby enemies based on their rarity.

Can be used to destroy Fractured Walls, which are hidden in dark areas off the path. Each wall takes only one dynamite to destroy.

Dynamite capacity, radius, and damage can be upgraded with Azurite.

With the Azurite you find in the mine you can craft and upgrade flares and dynamite.

Flares are portable light sources that can be thrown to specific locations and last for a short while. You won't get very far through the mine by just throwing flares -- you need Crawler's help for that -- but you can use them to explore areas near your pre-lit paths for valuable treasures.

Dynamite won't provide any light, but can be used to harm enemies and open up new paths. You'll encounter Fractured Walls throughout the mine that can be destroyed with a well-placed stick of dynamite. Both of these items can be upgraded at the Generator, improving their effectiveness as well as the amount of each that you can carry. It's worth carrying a few on your character when you want to go treasure-hunting in the dark.

Flares and Dynamite Guide

It's a good idea to stay in the Crawler's light while moving to a new location.

Light and darkness

Light and darkness play an important role, as the player character takes increasingly high damage over time when outside of any lit areas in the form of a stacking debuff. The debuff deals damage equal to 2% of the player’s life and energy shield per second, gaining a stack every 0.25 seconds (maximum 5000 stacks).

PoE Delve Darkness

A character in the darkness

Stepping into a lit area clears the debuff. Allied minions and totems will not take darkness damage. Additionally, monsters within the darkness cannot be damaged.

Light is primarily emitted by the Crawler, cables that are generated in cleared paths, and Flares. Flares are consumable items that can be thrown the create a temporary lit area. Its radius, duration, and maximum capacity can be upgraded with Azurite.

The player’s resistance to darkness damage and light radius decreases when delving deeper in the mine. Darkness resistance and light radius can be upgraded with Azurite.
