Once you've triggered an Expedition, you'll enter a special Expedition area.
Your objective is to strategically detonate explosives to uncover hidden paths and encounter monster hordes.
Look for the detonator UI element (usually bound to "V" by default) to place explosives.
Explosives have a limited placement range and need to be chained together in a sequence.
Key elements within the Expedition zone include:
Remnants: These are glowing blocky structures with modifiers displayed above them. Detonating explosives near Remnants triggers their effects, which can be beneficial (increased monster drops) or detrimental (increased monster difficulty). Prioritize Remnants that grant positive effects for your goals.
Runic Monster Markers: These are smaller white skulls on sticks indicating tougher monsters with a chance of dropping valuable Logbooks. Aim to include them in your detonation sequence whenever possible.
Chests: Red and yellow flagged markers represent chests containing loot. Prioritize these if you're looking for additional rewards.
1.1 Excavated Chest + Remnant Mods
Excavated Chest has three tiers: white, yellow, and red. Red Excavated Chest contains the most valuable items.
Opening an Excavated Chest has no risk. All you need to do is by placing the Chest into its circle.
You can obtain more specific items by adding Excavated Chests Remnant Mods, such as 50% increased Quantity of Expedition Logbooks found in Excavated Chests.
1.2 Monsters + Remnant Mods
There are many different Expedition monsters, include normal Monster, Magic Monster, Rare Monster, Runic Monster, etc. The bigger the monster is, the more rewards you will get.
You must firstly kill monsters, then loot their items. Different from Heist, if you die, you can play again and get their loots.
The monster rewards include Expedition artifacts, Logbooks, currency items, different gears, etc.
You can obtain more specific items by adding Monster Remnant Mods, such as 50% increased Quantity of Expedition Logbooks dropped by Runic Monsters.
1.3 Place Explosive Strategy & Tips
Tips: When the explosion occurs that hits that Remnant, they apply to all monsters and chests unearthed by that explosion and all subsequent ones.
Firstly, check all the Excavated Chests, Monsters, and Remnant Mods. Then, decide how to place explosives.
The start explosive is near the NPC. The remaining number of Placement is shown at the bottom. You can undo Placement(Shift + V).
For the chest, always choose the red Excavated Chest.
The top of Remnant shows its modifiers and it increases the difficulty of killing monsters. The bottom of Remnant shows its rewards.
According to your main DPS skill, you must avoid one of these mods:
Monsters are Immune to Cold Damage
Monsters are Immune to Fire Damage
Monsters are Immune to Lightning Damage
Monsters are Immune to Chaos Damage
Explosive mechanic: Modifiers from Remnants are applied to Monsters and Chests that are excavated from the explosive that destroys the Remnant and all subsequent Explosives.
General Tips for Success:
Planning Detonation Sequence: Think strategically about the order in which you place explosives. Aim to trigger positive Remnant effects while including Runic Monster markers and chests in the detonation chain.
Prioritize Objectives: Are you looking for more Logbooks, specific currency, or just additional loot? Focus on targeting Remnants and chests that align with your goals.
Atlas Passives (Endgame): Investing in specific Atlas Passive Skills (unlocked after the campaign) can enhance your Expedition experience by extending the explosive placement range or offering additional rewards.
Dannik (Vendor): Dannik resides in your Hideout (unlocked later in the campaign) and serves as a hub for Expedition activities. He offers to identify Logbooks, refresh your available Expedition encounters within Logbooks, and exchange artifacts obtained during Expeditions for valuable rewards.
By understanding the core mechanics, strategically using explosives, and prioritizing your objectives, you can successfully complete Expeditions in Path of Exile.
