Content Update 3.24.0 — Path of Exile: Necropolis
The Necropolis Challenge League
- Challenge leagues are a great opportunity for a fresh start in a new economy. All of your old characters and items are still present in the Standard and Hardcore leagues, but you’re encouraged to join the new leagues, complete challenges and demonstrate your mastery of Path of Exile!
- In the Necropolis Challenge League you will encounter Undertaker Arimor, a man collecting the scattered spirits of the Eternal Empire for a mysterious purpose. These spirits have begun to haunt the monsters of Wraeclast, unleashing their ancient fury and sorrow onto the world.
- The Undertaker bestows you with the Lantern of Arimor, a powerful family heirloom which illuminates the spirits haunting monsters throughout Wraeclast. With it, the Undertaker hopes to employ you to rid Wraeclast of this menace – and further his cryptic cause.
- Examine the Spirits haunting Wraeclast by peering through the Lantern of Arimor. The Lantern allows you to manipulate the Spirits, letting you configure which monsters they haunt. It would be wise to take your time with your decisions, for the Spirits are not forgiving.
- The Undertaker’s mysterious soul experiments can coalesce into powerful items. Take the corpses of haunted monsters to the Necropolis, bury them in one of the many graves in the cemetery and exorcise them to forge items from their souls.
- For more information about this expansion, check out pathofexile.com/necropolis
- With 3.24.0, there are Standard, Hardcore, Solo Self-Found and Ruthless variations of the Necropolis challenge league available. They have the same core mechanics and items. You can create private league versions of these leagues, with mods that make the game harder.
- The new Necropolis challenge league includes a set of 40 new challenges, and 8 new challenges in Ruthless Necropolis. There are microtransaction rewards for completing challenges that are only obtainable in this league. These rewards will be revealed in an upcoming news post.
New Content and Features
- The following Uniques have been added to the core drop pool: Storm’s Gift, Nametaker, Pragmatism, The Burden of Shadows, The Flawed Refuge, The Trickster’s Smile, and The Untouched Soul.
- Added a new Intelligence Support Gem – Sacred Wisps: Supports attack skills that can be used with Wands. Supported Skills can only be used with Wands. Cannot support Vaal Skills, minion skills, movement skills, or skills used by totems, traps or mines. Summon Sacred Wisps is triggered by supported skills to summon Sacred Wisps which use the triggering skill when you do.
- Added a new Intelligence/Dexterity Skill Gem – Automation: While this skill is active, supported spells will trigger whenever their cooldown is over. Supports spell skills that are instant and have no reservation. Cannot support skills used by totems, traps, or mines. Cannot modify the skills of minions.
- Added a new Strength Skill Gem – Call to Arms: While this skill is active, supported warcries will be repeatedly triggered, and all your warcry skills will share cooldowns. Supports warcry skills. Cannot modify the skills of minions.
- Added Transfigured versions of the following Skill Gems: Artillery Ballista, Elemental Hit, Ice Shot, Incinerate, Kinetic Blast, Poisonous Concoction, Summon Holy Relic, and Tornado.
- Added a new currency item, Veiled Scarab, which reveals a random Scarab when clicked.
- Veiled Chaos Orbs have been renamed to Veiled Orbs. They now remove a random modifier and add a random veiled modifier to a rare item. Veiled Orbs are no longer a world drop, they can drop from Catarina and are no longer offered as rewards in other League Content.
- The following currency items now have a stack size of 20: Exalted Orb, Regal Orb, Divine Orb, Stacked Deck, Crusader’s Exalted Orb, Redeemer’s Exalted Orb, Hunter’s Exalted Orb, Warlord’s Exalted Orb, Enkindling Orb, Instilling Orb, Tainted Exalted Orb, and Eldritch Exalted Orb.
- Added Cosmic, Decaying, Awakening, Synthesising, Reality, Devouring, and Blazing Fragments.
- Added 14 new Unique Items.
- Added minimap icons for Strongboxes.
- When upgrading a Pantheon Power with a Divine Vessel, the upgrade will now be applied for all of your characters in that League. Using a Divine Vessel when you already have the relevant Pantheon Power from a Map unlocked will toggle the upgrade for your character.
- Added a myriad of small improvements and surprises to the Campaign. Fun encounters and secrets have been scattered throughout Wraeclast, though the fundamentals of the Campaign are still intact. On an totally unrelated note, the Crafting Recipe unlock for Movement Speed – Rank 1 can now be found in The City of Sarn.
- Alternate-art Unique Items can now be converted to account-bound microtransactions using the new “/convertracereward” chat command. The item will be destroyed, and you will be granted an account-bound microtransaction that changes the appearance of an item of the same type to match that of the destroyed item.

- Continued to incrementally improve the sound, art, effects and environments.
Endgame Improvements
- In 3.24 we’ve made a plethora of changes to the endgame, introducing new bosses, adding another tier of maps, and streamlining the Atlas.
- The most difficult and most rewarding content in Path of Exile can be found in Uber Pinnacle bosses, such as The Maven and The Searing Exarch. Currently the only way to access these bosses is by allocating specific Keystones on the Atlas Passive Tree. While this system offers a nice element of control, it causes a problem: Rewards and access to the non-Uber variants are now economically priced around the rewards of the Uber fights. This means it is wasteful to run the non-Uber variants instead of simply selling them.
- In addition, the difficulty jump between the Pinnacle and Uber Pinnacle content was relatively large, and there wasn’t obvious content available that could bridge this gap. Many players would give up on their character before being able to defeat the Uber Pinnacle Bosses.
- The Cosmic Wounds, Memento Mori, Thirst for Knowledge, Insatiable Appetite, Throw the Gauntlet, and The Perfect Storm Atlas Keystone Passives have been removed. Instead, we have added a new set of fragments that can be used to access the Uber Pinnacle Bosses.
- These fragments can be obtained from the new Tier 17 Maps we’re also introducing with this patch. Not only do these Maps give you access to the Uber Pinnacle content, they also test your characters in new ways. These feature a new set of Bosses, Uber Monsters, and a new tier of modifiers that can roll on Maps.
- Tier 17 Maps have 20% Quality and are Unmodifiable.
- There are five new Tier 17 Maps in total. For each of their bosses, an existing unique item has been removed from the core drop pool, and now exclusively has a chance to drop from these bosses. These unique items have been rebalanced to be fitting rewards for the content:
- The Dark Seer Unique Sceptre now has +2 to Level of All Spell Skill Gems, +1-2 Maximum Mana per Level (previously +1), +1-2 Maximum Energy Shield per Level (previously +1), and It no longer has 40-60% increased Global Damage. A Divine Orb can be used to obtain the updated values on existing items. Enemies Blinded by you have Malediction (previously Enemies Blinded while you are Blinded), this change applies to existing items.
- The Malachai’s Endurance, Frenzy and Power Buffs from the Malachai’s Mark Unique Gloves now give a 10% chance to grant an Endurance, Frenzy or Power Charge on Hit respectively (previously 20% chance to grant an Endurance, Frenzy, or Power Charge on Kill respectively). This change affects existing items.
- The Manastorm Unique Shield now has 1-100% increased Mana Recovery from Flasks, and Gain 1-100 Mana per Enemy Killed. It also now has +1-100 to Maximum Mana (previously +50-70), 1-100% increased Mana Regeneration Rate (previously 30-50%), and no longer has 80-120% increased Energy Shield. When you Cast a Spell, it now Sacrifices all Mana to gain Added Maximum Lightning Damage equal to 50% of Sacrificed Mana for 4 seconds (previously equal to 25%). A Divine Orb can be used on existing items to obtain the updated Lightning Damage equal to a percentage of Sacrificed Mana value.
- The Wraithlord Unique Helmet now has 4 Abyssal Sockets, +1 to maximum number of Spectres per socketed Ghastly Eye Jewel (previously +2 to maximum number of Spectres), and +1-2 to Level of all Minion Skill Gems (previously +2 to Level of Socketed Minion Gems). These changes do not apply to existing items, and cannot be obtained with a Divine Orb.
- The Yoke of Suffering Unique Amulet now has Enemies take 5-10% increased Damage for each type of Ailment you have inflicted on them (previously 5%). Existing items can be updated to the new values using a Divine Orb.
- Uber Pinnacle Bosses now also have completely distinct Unique Item drop pools from their non-Uber counterparts, providing a reason to farm both versions.
- We’ve also made a few tweaks to the Uber Pinnacle Boss fights so their difficulties are more balanced with one another.
- In order to challenge the Uber version of Pinnacle Bosses, you must now successfully defeat their non-Uber version.
- Place five of the same Fragment in the Map Device to challenge the relevant Uber Pinnacle Boss, and you no longer need to worry about arranging the fragments in the right order!
- The fifth slot in the Map Device is now unlocked upon completing a non-Valdo’s Tier 17 Map.
- Voidstones each now provide “Tier 16 Maps dropped in Areas have 0.5% chance to become a Tier 17 Map for each Socketed Voidstone”.
Sextant and Master Mission Removal
- With every expansion added to the game, we have been increasing the complexity of running maps. It’s at the point now where a player must repeatedly execute a large sequence of steps to run maps efficiently. It can be easy to forget critical steps, and it can be tiring to repeat them.
- To solve this, we are removing the Sextant and Master Mission selector systems and putting significantly more power into Scarabs and the Atlas Tree instead.
- You can no longer earn Einhar, Alva, Jun or Niko Master Missions, and the accessibility to these Masters has been significantly increased with changes to the Atlas Passive Tree. Kirac still has Missions available for you though!
- Sextants can no longer drop, and Surveyor’s Compasses are no longer offered for purchase by Kirac.
- Existing Awakened Sextants, Elevated Sextants, Charged Compasses, and all Scarabs will be converted to Veiled Scarabs upon logging in after the launch of 3.24.0
- Previous sources of Sextants as rewards, such as Legion, Ritual, Incursion, and Sextants offered for purchase by Kirac have been replaced with Scarabs.
- Inscribed Ultimatums that require Awakened Sextants as a sacrifice now require Stacked Decks instead.
- Existing Forbidden Sanctums that award Awakened Sextants will award Veiled Scarabs on completion.
- The Crucible Passive Skill that causes an item to sell for additional Sextants now instead causes an item to sell for one or two of each Cartography Scarab, depending on the tier of modifier.
- Valdo’s Maps that had a chance to convert Maps to Charged Compasses instead now have a chance to convert Maps to Scarabs.
- The Harvest Crafting Option to Enchant a non-Unique Map with Map has 50% chance to not consume Sextant Uses has been removed.
- The following Divination Cards have been temporarily disabled: Monochrome and Underground Forest. Existing Divination Cards cannot be turned in currently.
Scarab Rework
- We’ve completely reworked Scarabs to include many of the options that were previously covered by the Sextant and Master Mission mechanics, and more.
- You might come across Scarabs that simply grant access to different content, and others that cause that content to grant better rewards and its monsters to yield more experience. Each type of Scarab now has multiple versions, so if you want to fully invest into a single type of content you can do so.
- All Scarabs are now world drops, and no longer have tiers. Some might be rarer than others, but the intention is that there will be a lot more options than before, and more interesting combinations to consider. If you want to target specific Scarabs, Betrayal has been updated to include most of them!
- In addition to reworking the currently available Scarabs, we’ve also introduced 20 new Scarabs.
- While this system is allowing you to heavily invest in one type of content, it is reducing your capacity for variety. To address this, we’ve massively increased access to content on the Atlas Tree. You are now able to reliably access different content like Breach or Legion solely from your Atlas Passives.
- Incursion, Delve, Betrayal and Bestiary are now accessible through Scarabs, and have more reliable investment options on the Atlas Tree. Not only this, you can now have Alva, Niko, Jun, and Einhar all appear together in the same Map!
- The 10 Atlas Notable Passives that cause your Maps to have no chance to contain specific content now also cause Scarabs found in your Maps to not be that type of content. These Notables also now have “Your Maps have +2% chance to contain other Extra Content that can be turned off through Atlas Passives” instead of “Your Maps have +2% chance to contain other Extra Content”.
- Scarabs now have a stack size of 20 (previously 10).
- Previous vendor recipes for Scarabs have been removed, though we have added a new vendor recipe that can be used to trade three Scarabs for a single Scarab of type different from those vendored.
- The following Divination Cards have been temporarily disabled: More is Never Enough, and Rebirth and Renewal. Existing Divination Cards cannot be turned in currently.
Maven Invitations
- Maven Invitations no longer drop. Instead, when you have witnessed all required Bosses to enter Maven’s Arena, speak to Kirac to open the Map Device window with the invitation already placed in there, ready to be modified.
- Existing Maven Invitations, excluding Quest versions, will be deleted upon logging in.
- Valdo’s Maps that had a chance to convert Maps to Maven Invitations instead now have a chance to convert Maps to Scarabs.
Atlas Passive Tree Changes
- To provide more flexibility in what content you want to run in the Endgame, we’ve added the ability to have multiple Atlas Tree sets, which can be swapped between Maps at your leisure. You can unlock up to two extra sets (for a total of three) by progressing through the Endgame and completing core content.
- You can also label your sets to easily identify which one has which content!
- During the Necropolis League, there will be support for the League on the Atlas Passive Tree. We’ve added four clusters that allow you to enhance the gameplay, customise it, and change its behaviour in meaningful ways. These Necropolis clusters will not be available in Standard League.

Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug where the revive duration for the Domain of Timeless Conflict was not calculating correctly for party play.
- Fixed a bug where the split beams from Arc of Surging could target the same enemy.
- Fixed a bug where the crafted modifier for a percentage of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life on Weapons was a Suffix instead of a Prefix. This change does not affect existing items with the Suffix modifier.
- Fixed a bug where Rage Vortex and Bladestorm were not cancelled if you swapped to a weapon type these skills could not be used with after casting them.
- Fixed a bug where Lycia’s Wind Tunnel skill could be affected by action speed modifiers, sometimes causing the damaging area to not match with the visual effects.
- Fixed a bug where the “Chance to Freeze” monster modifier only had a 1% chance to Freeze; it is now 25%.
- Fixed a bug where Stygian Spires were affected by “Monsters fire additional Projectiles” modifiers.
- Fixed a bug where Tormented Spirits would not function correctly when Delirium Demons split them. Tormented Spirits can no longer be targeted by Delirium Demons.
- Fixed a bug where Penance Brand (and its transfigured versions) could fail to remove energy from a target when detaching.
- Fixed a bug where Iron Commander and Replica Iron Commander did not increase the number of Transfigured Siege and Shrapnel Ballistae you can place respectively.
- Fixed bug where Transfigured Skills with Cooldowns could “poison” sockets so the non-Transfigured version with no Cooldown would get the Transfigured Cooldown applied if they were later socketed in that socket.
- Fixed a longstanding bug with Lightning Arrow’s visual effects where the lightning strike effect from the sky played on targets hit by the Arrow was also unintentionally played on the extra targets, in addition to (and sometimes making it hard to see) the “beam” style effects between them and the main target.
- Fixed a bug where effects that occur “when you curse a non-cursed enemy” would still occur if you failed to apply a curse to the enemy due to the number of curses you can apply being zero.
- Fixed a bug where changes made to the Ralakesh’s Impatience Unique Boots made in 3.23.0 were not applying to existing versions of this item.
