Lightning Conduit Lightning Conduit is a Intelligence Skill Gem.

Lightning strikes all Shocked enemies around a targeted location, then removes Shock from those enemies. Shocks cannot expire on enemies in range while casting this spell. Cannot be supported by Spell Cascade or Unleash.

PoE Lightning Conduit Build 3.19

Lightning Conduit is another new shock themed spell. A wave propagates out from the target location, causing lightning bolts to strike all shocked enemies in a large area. The damage is scaled by the strength of the shock on each enemy.

Lightning Conduit cannot itself shock and won’t hit non shocked enemies at all. So the challenge with this skill is to find a way to consistently apply powerful shocks to your targets to make the most of Lightning Conduit’s high damage potential and area of effect.

PoE Lightning Conduit Build 3.19

This high level build uses Wave of Conviction to shock enemies before casting Lightning Conduit until they’re obliterated.

For longer fights, it can employ Galvanic Field Galvanic Field to create a constant source of lightning damage.

Overcharge Support Overcharge Support is a new support gem that causes supported skills to deal less damage but makes them inflict much stronger shocks and grants them a higher chance to shock. Overcharge lets many different lightning skills create powerful shocks. Use this to take advantage of shock’s large damage multiplier or to activate Lightning Conduit Lightning Conduit and Galvanic Field Galvanic Field.

Skill functions and interactions

  • Targeting: Lightning Conduit targets enemies in a radius around the player dependent on AoE. The hit itself is not considered AoE and does not scale with Area Damage modifiers. Concentrated Effect Support will reduce the targeting range but does not affect damage. The spell will always attempt to cast when used; however, if no shocked enemies are in range, it will not hit any enemies. It will still count as a skill use however, and trigger effects such as Orb of Storms' additional bolts (allowing it to re-shock an enemy right away). It will also trigger "on skill use" effects and consume the cost of the spell.
  • Cooldown: The skill's tooltip cast time will be added onto any cooldowns triggering this skill, including any modifiers to cast speed. Attaching Faster Casting Support will reduce the overall cooldown, unlike typical triggers. Action Speed modifiers are disregarded for this interaction. Cooldown Recovery Rate modifiers will affect the sum of the original trigger's cooldown and Lightning Conduit's additional cooldown.
  • Cast While Channelling: Cast while Channelling Support (and Awakened Cast While Channelling Support) function differently from typical triggers due to the line Trigger a Supported Spell every (0.45-0.35) seconds while Channelling Supported Skills. This trigger interval is not considered a Cooldown (therefore not affected by Cooldown Recovery Rate). Because of this, Lightning Conduit will add its additional CD to a base of 0 CD. The skill will then depend on both the trigger interval and the CD. By reducing the CD below the trigger interval (account for server ticks of 0.033 sec) it is possible to not lose any casts.
  • Shock Removal: Lightning Conduit removes the Shock from targets after hitting it. Effects dependant on Shock will apply to the hit, such as #% of Damage Leeched as Life against Shocked Enemies. Effects such as Summon Skitterbots or Corpse Pact with Desecrate that make nearby enemies Shocked will not reapply the Shock after removal unless the enemy (or the Skitterbots) move out of range of the Shocking radius and re-enter. This can be partially bypassed with a trigger loop setup to cast corpses, or continuously moving with Corpsewalker.
  • Hydrosphere: Lightning Conduit will target and remove Shock from a Hydrosphere. This will cause the Hydrosphere to stop pulsing, even if it was previously simultaneously Frozen, Sapped, or Brittle. Skills like Orb of Storms will chain to the Hydrosphere to re-shock it, making it an effective ailment loop, especially in a trigger setup.
  • Divergent Quality: 100% chance to Destroy Corpses on Kill - enemies killed by Lightning Conduit will not leave corpses and will simply vanish.

Update Before Releasing

After further review of Lightning Conduit, we're making the tough call of adjusting its balance away from the values revealed in the gem post. We've focused on lowering the base hit damage while slightly raising the shock scaling, to reduce its power with builds that have low shock investment.

We've lowered the base hit damage of the skill by 35% and have raised the hit damage multiplier that is based on the Shock strength from 15% to 20% per 5% at gem level 20. Damage Effectiveness has been updated to 190%.

We understand this has a big impact on builds that you're preparing for launch, so we don't make this change lightly. In the future we will take more steps to make sure that our balance review process is completed before we reveal new gems.
