PoE Orb of Unmaking Guide: How to Get, Farm, Use, Recipes & Price

An Orb of Unmaking is a Path of Exile currency item that grants one Atlas passive skill refund point. It lets you remove an allocated Atlas passive and spend that point elsewhere, helping you adjust your endgame mapping strategy without starting over.

In the current Atlas system, you can also respec Atlas passives by paying Gold to Commander Kirac, and you can unlock multiple Atlas passive tree configurations. As a result, Orbs of Unmaking are useful, but they are no longer your only option for changing your Atlas setup.

1. What Does an Orb of Unmaking Do?

• Effect: Grants one Atlas passive skill refund point.
• Stack size: 40.
• Drop level: 70.
• Used for: Refunding points from the Atlas Passive Skill Tree, not your character’s passive skill tree.
• Guaranteed vendor cost in normal leagues: 2 Orbs of Regret from Commander Kirac for 1 Orb of Unmaking.

The Atlas Passive Skill Tree is a single, global system. Older guides describing separate passive trees for individual Atlas regions refer to mechanics removed in earlier expansions.

2. How to Get Orb of Unmaking in PoE

Method 1: Buy Orbs of Unmaking from Kirac

Commander Kirac sells 1 Orb of Unmaking for 2 Orbs of Regret in normal leagues. You can find him in the Karui Shores endgame area. This is the most predictable option when you already have spare Orbs of Regret.

For example, 10 Orbs of Unmaking cost 20 Orbs of Regret, while 50 Orbs of Unmaking cost 100 Orbs of Regret. Compare that conversion cost with the current player-trade rate before purchasing in bulk.

Method 2: Farm Currency Drops in Endgame Maps

Orbs of Unmaking can drop as ordinary currency from eligible high-level content; their listed drop level is 70. Clearing maps efficiently, killing more monsters and collecting currency drops can provide them naturally while you farm other rewards.

There is no need to defeat a particular pinnacle boss for an Orb of Unmaking. The Maven is not a dedicated source: her specific Orb of Unmaking drop was removed in version 3.17.0. Do not farm Maven solely for this currency.

Method 3: Collect Ever-Changing Divination Cards

The Ever-Changing divination card is the main targeted card recipe:

3 Ever-Changing cards = 10 Orbs of Unmaking.

The card is associated with Foundry Map in the current community-wiki listing. Divination card locations can change when the Atlas rotates, so verify the map’s availability and drop information for your league before committing to a long farming session. In trade leagues, buying three cards may be faster than farming them.

Method 4: Use the Bestiary Beastcrafting Recipe

Since the 3.28.0 update, a Bestiary craft that previously awarded three Orbs of Horizons instead awards three Orbs of Unmaking. Check your available beastcrafting recipes and the relevant beast cost before using this method. The exact cost depends on the beasts you need, so it is not necessarily cheaper than trading or Kirac’s vendor exchange.

Method 5: Trade with Other Players

In a trade-enabled league, use the official Path of Exile trade site or Faustus’s in-game Currency Exchange to find Orbs of Unmaking. At the Currency Exchange, select the item you want and the currency you will pay. Orders also require a Gold fee.

3. Orb of Unmaking Recipes and Exchanges

• Kirac vendor exchange: 2 Orbs of Regret → 1 Orb of Unmaking (normal leagues).
• Ever-Changing divination cards: 3 cards → 10 Orbs of Unmaking.
• Bestiary beastcrafting: The relevant beast recipe → 3 Orbs of Unmaking (since 3.28.0).
• Random card rewards: Sets such as Emperor’s Luck and The Void can indirectly produce currency or card-set rewards, but they are random outcomes, not reliable Orb of Unmaking farming recipes.

There is no general-purpose vendor recipe that converts an arbitrary collection of cheap items directly into Orbs of Unmaking. Kirac’s fixed exchange and the Ever-Changing card set are the straightforward, repeatable options.

4. How to Use Orb of Unmaking to Respec the Atlas

1. Place an Orb of Unmaking in your inventory.
2. Right-click the orb to consume it and gain one Atlas passive refund point.
3. Open the Atlas of Worlds and then the Atlas Passive Skill Tree.
4. Use the tree’s refund controls to remove an allocated passive, keeping the remaining allocated nodes connected as required.
5. Spend the recovered point on a different Atlas passive.

Important: An Orb of Unmaking does not directly remove a specific node when you use it. It grants a refund point that you subsequently spend in the Atlas tree. It also cannot refund your character’s normal passive skills. For those, use an Orb of Regret or another character-respecialisation method.

5. Can You Respec Atlas Passives Without Orbs of Unmaking?

Yes. Commander Kirac offers Atlas Respecialisation for 2,000 Gold per Atlas passive point. He can also fully refund an Atlas passive tree in one operation for the corresponding Gold cost. For example, refunding 10 points costs 20,000 Gold at that rate.

You can also unlock up to three Atlas passive tree configurations by completing 50 and then 100 regular-map Atlas bonus objectives. Switching between these configurations when opening maps lets you alternate between mapping strategies without repeatedly refunding the same nodes. Atlas refund points are shared across your available tree configurations.

Some Atlas quest rewards also include Atlas refund points. If you have unused points from these rewards, spend them before buying additional currency.

6. Orb of Unmaking Price: How Much Is It Worth?

There is no permanent Chaos Orb price. The value changes by league, platform, game mode, supply and demand. A fixed quote such as “9 Chaos Orbs each” is not reliable for the current 3.29 economy.

For the best value, compare three alternatives:

• Direct trading: Check current Orb of Unmaking offers on the official trade site or Faustus’s Currency Exchange.
• Kirac conversion: Compare the market price of 1 Orb of Unmaking with the price of 2 Orbs of Regret.
• Gold respec: Decide whether spending 2,000 Gold per point at Kirac is preferable to using tradable currency.

In Solo Self-Found, where player trading is unavailable, the Kirac exchange, natural drops, card sets and Bestiary crafting become more important.

7. Best Farming and Atlas Respec Tips

• Need just a few refunds? Use Orbs of Unmaking you already own or pay Gold at Kirac.
• Need a large Atlas reset? Compare Kirac’s Gold respec cost with the cost of buying enough Orbs of Unmaking.
• Have lots of Orbs of Regret? Exchange them with Kirac at the fixed 2:1 ratio.
• Want to farm cards? Check whether Foundry is available and whether Ever-Changing drops are efficient compared with your regular mapping strategy.
• Switch strategies often? Unlock the second and third Atlas configurations rather than repeatedly refunding and rebuilding the same tree.
• Planning a full redesign? Plan your path to the desired Atlas notables and keystones first; avoid spending refund points on unnecessary detours.

8. Orb of Unmaking FAQ

Does one Orb of Unmaking reset the entire Atlas tree?

No. Each orb grants one refund point. A complete reset requires enough refunds for the allocated nodes, or you can use Kirac’s Gold-based full-respec option.

Can I use an Orb of Regret instead of an Orb of Unmaking?

Not directly. Orbs of Regret grant refunds for your character’s passive tree. However, Kirac exchanges 2 Orbs of Regret for 1 Orb of Unmaking in normal leagues.

Does Orb of Unmaking drop from Maven?

It can be acquired from general eligible currency drops, but Maven no longer has the special Orb of Unmaking drop that appeared in outdated guides.

Is it better to use Gold or Orbs of Unmaking?

Use whichever resource has the lower opportunity cost for your character. Gold is useful for small or full Atlas respecs through Kirac, while orbs can be earned, exchanged and traded. If you regularly switch between two types of mapping, separate Atlas configurations may be more efficient than either option.
