Earning Easy Runes with Broken Runes in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC introduces Broken Runes, a consumable item granting a quick boost of 500 runes. Here’s everything you need to know about finding and using them:
What are Broken Runes?
Broken Runes are remnants of grace, offering a small but convenient source of runes. Each use grants 500 Elden Ring Runes, making them ideal for topping off your rune count before a purchase or level up.
Where to Find Broken Runes:
The Lands Between hold numerous Broken Runes scattered throughout the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Here are some notable locations:
Ulcerated Tree Spirit arena: Grab a Broken Rune from a corpse after defeating the boss.
Fort of Reprimand: Find them in various locations within the fort, including behind a cart, the main hall’s center, and the Omenkiller fight area.
Belurat Gaol: Look between two dining tables on the left side after exiting the room past the first stone bridge from the "window."
Castle Ensis: Jump to the right side as you take the first set of stairs.
Scorpion River Catacombs: The location can be found in a video guide (link included in the full guide).
Bonny Gaol:
One is readily available after opening the door to your right and defeating the enemy, then dropping down the hole next to the flaming lantern.
Another is hidden in the sewer area you jumped down to earlier. Look for a narrow path with slug-like enemies and follow it to find a corpse holding a Broken Rune.
A third one can be found in the lower levels of the gaol by following the river stream to your right and defeating the Living Jar.
Using Broken Runes:
You can use Broken Runes directly from your inventory or as a quick item for easy access. You can carry up to 99 Broken Runes at a time and store a maximum of 600 in your chest.
Tips:
Broken Runes are a great way to top off your rune count before leveling up or making a purchase.
Since they are relatively common, consider using them strategically to avoid missing out on a crucial level up or purchase due to a few missing runes.
Remember: This is not an exhaustive list. Explore the Shadow of the Erdtree to discover more Broken Runes and boost your rune collection!
