Merveil, The Siren

Merveil, the Twisted, is the final boss of Act 1 in Path of Exile. She resides in the Cavern of Anger, a flooded chamber at the end of the storyline. Merveil was once a member of the Vaal civilization, a powerful empire that corrupted itself with forbidden power. She became obsessed with obtaining immortality and experimented on herself, infusing her body with the life force of captured creatures. This dark ritual transformed her into a grotesque creature, granting her immense power but driving her insane.

Merveil's boss fight is a two-stage encounter. In the first stage, she appears human-like with glowing blue hair and wields powerful cold spells. The arena is flooded, and Merveil can teleport around the room. Players must avoid her attacks while damaging glowing pillars to drain the water from the arena. Once the water is gone, Merveil transforms into her second stage.

In her second stage, Merveil takes on a more monstrous appearance, with several writhing tentacles sprouting from her back. She gains access to new attacks, including powerful slams and area-of-effect spells. Players must dodge her attacks and focus their damage on Merveil to defeat her.

Merveil is a challenging boss fight for new players, but with proper preparation and knowledge of her mechanics, she can be defeated. Here are some tips for defeating Merveil:

  • Resistance: Merveil deals primarily cold damage, so it is important to have a high resistance to cold. This can be achieved by equipping gear with cold resistance or by using potions that grant temporary cold resistance.
  • Movement: Merveil is very mobile, so it is important to be able to dodge her attacks. This can be done by using movement skills such as Dash or Blink Arrow.
  • Damage: Focus your damage on Merveil. Area-of-effect skills can be effective in the first stage when she is surrounded by adds, but single-target damage is more important in the second stage.

Defeating Merveil rewards players with access to Act 2 of Path of Exile. It also grants a unique item and a large amount of experience points.

Merveil Abilities

Merveil has two forms. The first, humanoid form uses the following skills:

  • Ice Storm that leaves chilled ground.
  • A barrage of ice bolts.
  • Summons animated weapons with Cyclone.
  • Summons statues.
  • Normal melee attacks.

After the first form is defeated, Merveil will turn into the second siren form (Merveil, The Twisted), which uses the following skills:

  • Creates geysers that rapidly hit anything within them for cold damage.
  • Summon Brood Larva and Unstable Larva
  • Freezing Pulse
  • Cold projectile mortar
  • Screech
