MW3 Longshot Distance

There are five different longshot ranges in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone 2 that will change depending on the class in hand. Of course, shotguns aren’t going to have the same required distance as sniper rifles, and it certainly helps to know how far each shot must be. Below you can find all of the class-based longshot distances.

  • Sniper Rifles – 50m
  • Assault Rifles – 38m
  • Battle Rifles – 38m
  • Marksman Rifles – 38m
  • Light Machine Guns – 38m
  • Submachine Guns – 30m
  • Pistols – 20m
  • Shotguns – 12.5m

Now that you have the official distances for each weapon class, taking on the Platinum challenges should be a bit easier, but there is still a problem. How can you tell what these distances truly are? Most of the time you can just eyeball the distance, but there is a sight in Modern Warfare 3 that can make the grind far easier.

The sight in question is the XTEN Angel holo sight. This attachment has a built-in range finder that displays the exact distance of where you have the sight lined up. You’ll be able to see in real time if a player is 38m away or 30m away. The XTEN Angel isn’t required, but it can save you plenty of grief on a missed longshot kill in Modern Warfare 3.

How to Get MW3 Long Shot Kills

The two main factors in speeding up getting longshot kills are the game modes you play and the gun builds you use. Some game modes naturally feature more long-range engagements than others making it easier to secure longshot kills. Playing fast-paced point-oriented game modes like Hardpoint is great for weapon leveling but less ideal for this.

Instead, players looking to get longshot kills in Modern Warfare 3 should play Ground War. Ground War is a large-scale 32v32 game mode where two teams fight over five objectives. To accommodate so many players, the maps in Ground War are much larger than regular 6v6 modes, resulting in gunfights often taking place over longer distances. This is fantastic as most kills you get will count as longshot kills.

Another useful tip for getting longshot kills in MW3 is to build your guns for accuracy. Since you are trying to kill enemies from long range, it makes sense to build your guns to have as little recoil as possible. This will make it easier to stay on target when engaging from a distance. Attachments that have Recoil Steadiness, Recoil Control, Vertical Recoil, and Aiming Stability listed as pros are especially useful. Mounting your weapon on suitable surfaces works too as this effectively removes all recoil.

Those who don’t enjoy playing Ground War can still get longshot kills in regular 6v6 playlists. Some maps feature long sightlines that are perfect for securing longshot kills. The best regular maps to get longshot kills in MW3 are Crown Raceway, Mercado Las Almas, Santa Sena Border Crossing, Shoot House, and Taraq.

Best Mode & Spots for Longshots in Every MW3 Map

The best mode to farm longshots in is Domination due to the static points that enemies must defend. Here are the best spots to obtain longshots in every Modern Warfare 3 map:

  • Al Bagra Fortress – In the Courtyard by the large door that overlooks the C flag. Mount your weapon and point your crosshairs toward the door directly in front of the C flag.
  • Breenbergh Hotel – Slightly past the Rooftop, in the area that overlooks the Bar. Mount your weapon on the railway and aim towards where the C objective is located. Enemies will come through that hallway or even race up the stairs.
  • Crown Raceway – In the Pit Entry section of the map, facing B Flag, you have a clear view of the road. This way, it’s easy to pick off players either defending B or trying to take it away from you.
  • El Asilo – In the Guest House overlooking Soccer Field. This may seem a bit far from the Flags, but there are various paths players often use during domination. Keep an eye on the roof to your left, the door in the same area, and the arch directly in front of you.
  • Embassy – Somewhere on the east side of the map in the G and H columns. Head to the Front Gate and aim down toward the tennis court. Eventually, enemies will appear from the other side near the flag.
  • Farm 18 – This isn’t the best map for long shots due to how close all the objectives are, but if we were to choose one spot, it would have to be North Street overlooking Flag A. Aim towards Flag A and watch players that are coming from your left side. This is near a popular spawn, so you’ll need to watch the small firing range often.
  • Mercado Las Almas – The best spot here to get long shots is in the Red Tarps, aiming directly down the main lane of the map. You want to try and catch players coming directly from C Flag.
  • Santa Sena Border Crossing –We recommend not doing longshots in Santa Sena Border Crossing due to how many obstructions there are around the map. The best way is to use both Covered Walkways on both sides of the map.
  • Taraq – Taraq might be one of the easiest maps to get longshots in because it is open. We recommend putting up camp in Barber Shop that overlooks Flag A. Here you have a window to observe the map from and even a few to the eastern side of the map.
  • Zarqwa Hydroelectric – This is another small map with small openings for long shots. We recommend making your way to B Flag and aiming towards A Flag. This is the most open area on the map, and you can easily catch enemies coming towards B Flag.
