The best route to farm gold is to do two things. First, don’t over spend! Make sure you don’t Upgrade every piece of gear, or Extract every Aspect you get, etc. If you do, you can never earn enough to out pace your spending.
Second, the best way to actually earn Gold is to sell unwanted Rare Items. Rare Items sell for a decent chunk of 10k to over 20k Gold for one item! A healthy half-hour of farming can net a lot of Gold to aid in your gearing, re-speccing, Enchanting and more.
While you’ll naturally accumulate a fortune of gold by killing enemies, there are a couple of ways you can fast track the amount you earn, namely: selling spare armour and weapons that you don’t need to dismantle and by using Greed Shrines. Like other shrines, these are completely random and you might find them out in the world or in a dungeon, marked with a little pile of coins above the shrine pillar. These will give you massively increased gold drops for a limited time, so get busy killing stuff to earn big bucks.
There are also Treasure Goblins you can hunt down, but these tend to drop more gear than they do gold, plus as with the shrines, they seem to appear randomly. As a general rule, the more enemies you kill, the more gold you’ll get, so good XP farming methods will get you lots of gold, too.
Selling items is way more profitable. The gold you pick up on the floor in any given stretch is probably only gonna amount to like 2-3 items put together. You can probably ignore gold on the ground if you want and not be worried.
The best way to farm gold is to simply sell every Rare (yellow) and Magic (blue) item that drops. Pick up everything, return to town when your inventory is full, and sell all your loot. Doing this, you will gain tons of gold, but you won’t be gaining any materials from salvaging.
This is a trade-off that you will have to decide if it’s worth it to pursue or not. If you desperately need gold and are stocked up on materials, then it’s definitely worth selling your loot. However, if your material supply is running low, it may be a better idea to salvage Rare items and sell Magic ones for profit.
When you get back to town, sell your loot to the nearest vendor NPC. You should receive a decent injection of Gold for every transaction. Take your warp portal back and resume farming.
After clearing a Dungeon, you can use different methods of resetting it, depending if you are playing solo or in a party.
If you are solo and are waiting for the 60 and 150-second timers to reset a Dungeon, you can sell your items or stash important ones during this downtime.
Below are a few examples of Dungeons with high mob density. Classes that excel in dishing out Area of Effect (AoE) damage like the Sorcerer and Necromancer can make quick work of the tightly packed enemies within.
Before entering a Dungeon, make sure you have cleared your inventory to avoid having to go back to town because of a full inventory.

Participating in Helltide is an excellent way to farm Gold, Legendaries, Uniques, Fiend Roses, and Forgotten Souls in the late game. Earning Aberrant Cinders in Helltide and opening Tortured Gifts, especially Tortured Gifts of Mysteries, will reward you with plenty of high-level loot.
In addition, the event’s high mob density and various World Events are great for gaining Experience and earning more levels and Paragon Points.
While more difficult than regular dungeons, Nightmare Dungeons provide plenty of Gold, Experience, and high-level loot like Uniques and Legendaries due to their high mob density and frequency of Elite mobs.
In addition, finishing Nightmare Dungeons allows you to upgrade your Paragon Glyphs, letting you enhance your character’s power even further while earning Gold.
While not as immediately lucrative as the other methods, clearing out Whispers of the Dead bounties from the Tree of Whispers is still an excellent source of Gold, Experience, and loot, especially if you receive a Greater Collection Grand Cache from turning in Grim Favors.
In addition, the Grand Caches you receive from these bounties can reward you with Nightmare Sigils, allowing you to continue grinding Nightmare Dungeons.
