Greater Eldritch Ember is an Eldritch currency item in Path of Exile 1. It adds a random Greater-tier Searing Exarch implicit modifier to a normal, magic or rare helmet, gloves, boots or body armour. Using another Ember replaces the existing Searing Exarch implicit, but does not replace an Eater of Worlds implicit. This makes Greater Eldritch Ember a practical way to improve ordinary rare armour without rerolling its prefixes or suffixes.
Updated: October 31, 2026 (PoE 3.29, Curse of the Allflame). This guide covers PoE 1, not Path of Exile 2.

How to Use Greater Eldritch Ember
- Choose an eligible item. Use an uncorrupted, non-influenced normal, magic or rare helmet, pair of gloves, pair of boots or body armour. A good rare item with useful explicit modifiers is usually the best target.
- Check its existing implicit. The Ember can overwrite an ordinary or existing Searing Exarch implicit. Any existing Eater of Worlds implicit is preserved.
- Right-click the Greater Eldritch Ember, then left-click the armour. A random Greater-tier Searing Exarch implicit is generated.
- Inspect the result. Keep the result if it benefits your build. Otherwise, apply another Ember to reroll the Exarch implicit.
- Add the other influence if wanted. Use an Eldritch Ichor on the same item to roll an Eater of Worlds implicit without replacing the Exarch implicit.
Important: Using a Greater Eldritch Ember changes an implicit modifier, not the item’s explicit prefixes or suffixes. It does not turn your rare item into a new rare item. It also does not grant a guaranteed modifier: the result is randomly selected from the eligible Searing Exarch pool for that equipment slot and tier.
Which Items Can You Use It On?
| Item type | Can Greater Eldritch Ember be used? | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary normal, magic or rare armour | Yes | Must be one of the four supported armour slots and uncorrupted. |
| Rare armour with an Eater of Worlds implicit | Yes | The Eater implicit remains in place. |
| Armour with an existing Searing Exarch implicit | Yes | The existing Exarch implicit is overwritten. |
| Fractured armour | Yes | Eldritch implicits are compatible with fractured items. |
| Synthesised armour | Generally yes | The Synthesised implicit is removed; do not use an Ember if you want to keep it. |
| Shaper-, Elder- or Conqueror-influenced armour | No | These older influence systems cannot coexist with Eldritch implicits. |
| Unique armour | No | The currency’s usable rarity is normal, magic or rare. The Eternal Struggle is a special unique amulet with built-in Eldritch implicits, not an eligible Ember target. |
| Corrupted armour | No | Ordinary Eldritch currency cannot modify corrupted items. |
| Weapons, rings, belts, shields or ordinary amulets | No | These are not valid equipment slots for applying an Ember. |
How to Get and Farm Greater Eldritch Ember
The main farming route is to run maps affected by The Searing Exarch. Greater Eldritch Embers are restricted drops associated with Exarch-influenced monsters; The Black Star is a listed boss source. The currency has a drop level of 73, so focus on appropriately leveled endgame maps rather than early campaign areas.
- Progress your Atlas and unlock The Searing Exarch influence on the Map Device.
- Run eligible maps with Exarch influence enabled and kill Exarch-influenced monster packs.
- Use Exarch-related Atlas and map strategies where they increase the number of influenced monsters or Eldritch rewards; check the current Atlas configuration before investing.
- Fight The Black Star when you have access to the encounter. This boss is a documented source of Greater Eldritch Ember.
- Alternatively, buy Embers from other players when crafting immediately is more important than farming.
Price note: The old fixed estimate of approximately four Chaos Orbs per Ember should not be treated as a current price. Prices depend on league, platform, time and supply. Check the official Path of Exile Trade site or your league’s Currency Exchange before trading.
All Eldritch Ember Tiers Explained
| Implicit strength (low to high) | How it is obtained | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lesser | Lesser Eldritch Ember | Entry-level Exarch implicit |
| Greater | Greater Eldritch Ember | The tier covered by this article |
| Grand | Grand Eldritch Ember | Stronger than Greater |
| Exceptional | Exceptional Eldritch Ember | Highest tier applied directly by an Ember |
| Exquisite | Upgrade with an Orb of Conflict | Cannot be rolled directly by an Ember |
| Perfect | Upgrade with an Orb of Conflict | Highest named Eldritch implicit tier |
The names above are safer to use than numeric tiers: some websites number from strongest to weakest, while other guides number in the opposite direction. Greater is the second of six named implicit strengths.
Greater Eldritch Ember Mods by Equipment Slot
The following tables contain selected, directly rollable Greater-tier Searing Exarch implicits and their practical uses. They are a curated selection, not a claim that every possible modifier is listed here. For the full and frequently updated pool, consult the PoE Wiki Searing Exarch implicit modifier list or PoEDB Eldritch implicit data.
Modifier availability warning: Some data-mined Pinnacle Atlas Boss variants display a zero spawn weight at Greater tier. Such variants are not directly obtainable with a Greater Eldritch Ember, even if they appear in a raw modifier database. Higher-tier variants may become available at Grand or above. The legacy list also contained outdated wordings, which should not be reused.

How to choose: A mapping build often prefers always-active effects, while a boss-focused build can benefit from an explicitly conditional “While a Unique Enemy is in your Presence” version. A conditional variant is not a strict upgrade for ordinary mapping. Check both the roll and the circumstances in which it applies.
Greater Eldritch Ember vs. Grand Eldritch Ember
Both items roll the same type of Searing Exarch implicit on eligible armour slots, but Grand Embers roll the stronger Grand tier. A Greater Ember is therefore useful for finding a desirable modifier without paying for a higher-tier currency on every attempt. Once the right modifier appears, consider whether further upgrades justify the additional cost and risk.
Example: A Greater Ember can roll 9% increased Attack Speed on gloves, while the corresponding Grand tier has 10% increased Attack Speed. The same idea applies to many other modifier families; exact values depend on the modifier.
How Greater Eldritch Ember Works with Orb of Conflict
An Orb of Conflict changes the tier of one of an item’s two Eldritch implicits while lowering the tier of the other. It can only be used when the item has both a Searing Exarch and an Eater of Worlds implicit. Its result is random and weighted by the relative strengths of the two implicits; it does not guarantee an upgrade to the side you want.
- Roll the Searing Exarch implicit you want with an Ember and the Eater of Worlds implicit with an Ichor.
- Check which implicit is stronger and which one you are willing to risk downgrading.
- Use an Orb of Conflict only if the potential upgrade is worth the currency cost and chance of losing progress.
- If the desired Exarch implicit is upgraded, use an appropriately tiered Ichor to restore or improve the other implicit without rerolling the Exarch implicit.
If a Lesser implicit is downgraded, it is removed. For high-end crafting, it is often more economical to establish the desired modifier first and then plan the tier-upgrade process instead of blindly spending large amounts of currency.
Searing Exarch vs. Eater of Worlds Dominance
If an item’s Exarch implicit has a higher tier than its Eater implicit, The Searing Exarch is dominant. If the Eater implicit has a higher tier, The Eater of Worlds is dominant. When the two tiers are equal, neither side is dominant.
| Currency | When Exarch is dominant | When Eater is dominant |
|---|---|---|
| Eldritch Chaos Orb | Rerolls prefixes | Rerolls suffixes |
| Eldritch Exalted Orb | Adds a prefix | Adds a suffix |
| Eldritch Orb of Annulment | Removes a prefix | Removes a suffix |
These currencies affect explicit modifiers, not the Eldritch implicit itself. Read the item’s current dominance carefully before using valuable Eldritch crafting currency.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Greater Eldritch Ember do in PoE?
It adds or rerolls a random Greater-tier Searing Exarch implicit on an eligible uncorrupted, non-influenced helmet, pair of gloves, pair of boots or body armour.
Can an item have both a Searing Exarch and an Eater of Worlds implicit?
Yes. Use an Eldritch Ember for the Exarch side and an Eldritch Ichor for the Eater side. Rerolling one side normally leaves the other side untouched.
Does Greater Eldritch Ember change prefixes or suffixes?
No. It changes the Exarch implicit only. Prefix and suffix crafting is handled by other currency items.
Can Greater Eldritch Ember be used on a fractured item?
Yes, if it is an otherwise eligible, uncorrupted armour item. Fractured items are not disqualified by being fractured.
Can I use it on Shaper, Elder or Conqueror items?
No. Eldritch implicits cannot coexist with those older influence types.
Does Greater Eldritch Ember require item level 75?
No. The number 75 shown in modifier data is not an item-level gate for applying the Eldritch implicit. Do not confuse the Ember’s drop level 73 with an armour item-level requirement.
Why can I not roll a Pinnacle Atlas Boss modifier with my Greater Ember?
Some Pinnacle-presence variants have a zero spawn weight at Lesser and Greater tiers. For those modifiers, the stronger tier must be obtained first or elevated through appropriate Eldritch crafting; a Greater Ember cannot directly generate a zero-weight result.
How many Greater Eldritch Embers does it take to get a specific mod?
There is no fixed amount. Each Ember rerolls the Exarch implicit randomly, and different modifiers have different spawn weights. A more heavily weighted modifier is more likely than a rarer one. Budget extra currency for rerolls.
Is Greater Eldritch Ember better than Lesser Eldritch Ember?
It applies a stronger implicit tier. However, Lesser Embers can still be useful for testing a build or cheaply finding a modifier family before upgrading your crafting plan.
What is Greater Eldritch Ember worth?
Its value depends on the active league and market conditions. Check live trading data rather than relying on a static Chaos Orb price.
