Whirlwind - Torchlight Infinite
Now, when New Whirlwind reaches the Max Channeled Stacks, the 360-degree Wind Blade will be replaced by a lower-degree range of Wind Blade that strike the nearest enemy base on the Slash-Strike chance.
Season 2 Changes:
- Changed the maximum channeled stacks to 8. After reaching max channeled stacks, a circular wind blade will be released at enemies according to the Steep Strike chance.
- Adjusted the Sweep Slash damage multiplier from 39% to 37% at Lv.1 and from 68% to 66% at Lv.20. Adjusted the Steep Strike damage multiplier from 58% to 94% at Lv.1 and from 102% to 164% at Lv.20.
Whirlwind Season 2 Changes
After covering the new skills, let's talk about skill adjustments at the end. Everyone must be keen to know about what balance adjustment we will be making to Whirlwind.
Whirlwind was a well-deserved popular skill in Season 1, and while Hunters also picked up many other skills later in the season, Whirlwind was definitely the most popular choice in the early stage.
As a Slash Strike skill, the old Whirlwind enjoyed a lot of advantages: It allowed attack while moving and had a 360-degree range of attack... Those two features alone made it the first choice for most Hunters. But it didn't offer rich development in Slash Strike.
To balance the essential experience of Whirlwind and strengthen its Slash Strike features, we have made the following adjustments:
Now the overall Base Area of Whirlwind has been tuned down, the default Max Channeled Stacks for Whirlwind is 8 stacks. When Whirlwind reaches the Max Channeled Stacks, the 360-degree Wind Blade is not always performed. Instead, based on the Slash Strike Chance, a Wind Blade with higher damage will be released to the nearest enemy. The minimum channeled stacks remain essential for the new Whirlwind, and the chance for Steep Strikes has become more important.

Q：I understand that whirlwind was very strong in season 1 and needed to be rebalanced. Are you happy with the changes to whirlwind and do you think it is still a viable skill choice this season? Currently, I find that whirlwind is only decent when you have very high +minimum channel stacks and 100% steep strike. This is very difficult to achieve unless you choose a two handed sword for your weapon. Are there any plans to add more ways to obtain +minimum channel stacks, such as crafts or corrodes to allow more weapon choices?
A：The adjustment to Whirlwind is quite in line with our expectations. The minimum channel stack is one of the core cultivation methods of Whirlwind Slash in the last season. In this season, the probability of striking has been added, but the advantages of Whirlwind's mobility and large damage range still exist. Overall, its strength is within our expectations.
