PoE Crucible End Date & Patch Notes

PoE Crucible End Date

The end date of PoE Crucible league is August 16, 2023. GGG has seen a lot of people asking when PoE 3.22 expansion will launch. It's currently looking like it will launch on August 18th (PDT). This isn't fully locked in yet. However, GGG will confirm its launch date at ExileCon in just a few weeks.

GGG has also noted that quite a few people have asked whether or not PoE will be hosting end-of league-events before Crucible ends. GGG is currently all-hands-on-deck working on ExileCon, Path of Exile 2 and the 3.22 expansion so GGG isn't able to host any events this time around.

Name Description
August 16, 2023 PoE Crucible 3.21 league will end.

3.21.2c Patch Notes

  • This is the end of the Crucible League. Your characters and their progress will be migrated over the next few hours following the patch, or you can use the migration options in the character selection menu. Thanks for playing!
  • Geodes, Remnants and Magmatic Ores will be deleted upon logging in.
  • You can now create Private Leagues for the Ancestor League, ahead of the league's launch on August 18. These leagues will not begin until the Ancestor League launches.
  • Made some small engine improvements. Further improvements will be made in 3.22.0.
  • Added a new Chaos or Divine Orbs Buyout Price search filter to the Path of Exile Trade website.
  • Fixed a bug where Strike Skills with high attack speed were not hitting Enemies.
  • Fixed a client crash.

Will the Crucible League Go Core?

Crucible will not be going core, but there are components of it that we really like that we may find a way to bring back in future expansions.

We loved watching everyone develop their Crucible trees to create unique builds utilising all the different Crucible skills available, so all your items with Crucible trees will move with you to Standard. However, the "Totems Explode on Death" Crucible Skill will likely be adjusted when that happens.

When the current league ends in a few weeks, all your existing Geodes, Remnants and Magmatic Ores will be deleted. If you have any Crucible challenges to complete, you still have some time to do so!

Thanks to everyone who got a chance to play Crucible!

3.21.0c Patch Notes

This patch disables lower-tier Crucible Passives that have downsides from rolling, and contains updates to the Crucible Forge user interface, as well as a number of other improvements and bug fixes.

Crucible Changes

  • Added an indicator to the Crucible Forge user interface which displays the relative difficulty for the amount of channelling you have done, and how close you are to fully-channelling the encounter.
  • Disabled most of the lower-tier Crucible Passives that have downsides on the initial skill from rolling. Initial skills with downsides are far less common and can generally only roll in the endgame. When an initial skill does come with a downside, the upside should outweigh the downside.
  • The Crucible Passive that granted Weapon Elemental Damage and cannot Inflict Elemental Ailments can no longer roll.
  • Unique Items obtained by selling an item with a Crucible Passive Tree now come with their own Crucible Passive Tree, with the first skill allocated.
  • Crucible Passive Tree Skills that cause the item to sell for an additional Unique Item can no longer be transferred onto other unrelated Base Types by combining Crucible Passive Trees.
  • Updated the explode visuals for the Crucible Passive Tree skill that causes Totems to Explode on Death to be more appropriate.

General Improvements

  • The Caster Passive Skill Mastery which provides a chance to open nearby Chests when you Cast a Spell no longer opens Curio Displays in Heist.
  • The Heist Locker Hideout decoration is now unlocked when you first visit the Rogue Harbour in a League, rather than upon completing The Rogue Harbour quest.
  • The "Flasks you Use apply to Linked Targets" modifier on the Ceinture of Benevolence Unique Belt has been re-enabled, it now only applies to Non-Unique Utility Flasks you Use. We've also enabled this Belt to drop again.
  • Updated an Armour Passive Skill Mastery description to clarify it provides maximum Elemental Resistances if Equipped Helmet, Body Armour, Gloves, and Boots all have Armour (previously stated maximum Resistances).
  • Updated the description of the Spreading Strength Challenge to clarify it is completed upon fully allocating Crucible Passive Skill Trees on items with specific maximum depths.
  • Improved the Crucible Forge and Crucible Passive Tree user interfaces for Controller Input mode.

3.21.0b Patch Notes: Crucible League Changes

  • Crucible monsters now have much less damage reduction, except when channeled to maximum difficulty.
  • Crucible monsters now have less life at all levels, most notably in Part 2 of the campaign, and in low-tier Maps. In addition, Crucible Bosses have had their life further reduced by roughly 20%.
  • Increased the amount of Crucible Passive Skill Tree experience gained from encounters, particularly for encounters that are not fully-channelled. This should result in smoother progression on the experience bar while channelling.
  • Increased the drop rate of Igneous Geodes. Lower-tier Crucible monsters are now more likely to drop these. Note Geodes have a higher chance to drop in high-tier Maps, and their drop chance is affected by item quantity.
  • Added a "Crucible Item" filter to the Miscellaneous filters section on the Path of Exile: Trade website.

PoE Crucible Patch Notes & Guides

Use the power of the Titans to imbue your weapons with their own passive skill trees. Here's an example of a Crucible tree that can be forged onto a bow.

PoE Crucible Passive Skill Tree

In order to forge crucible trees onto your weapons, you'll need to complete Crucible encounters. Select your weapon and channel it at the Crucible Forge to spawn monsters. The longer you channel for, the more dangerous and rewarding the encounter becomes.

As you get deeper into a tree, more and more experience is required to unlock skills. The final depths can take quite an investment and can only be found rarely on endgame items, but also have some of the most powerful properties.

PoE get deeper into a tree

In addition to all types of weapons, shields can also be empowered with their own crucible trees. Here's a relatively simple low level example. It gets a bit crazier as you approach the endgame.

PoE shields crucible trees

By default, you can only add Crucible Trees to non-unique items. But it's possible to get a mod on the Forge of the Titans unique map that allows you to imbue a unique item with a Crucible Tree, which can then be levelled up via regular Crucible encounters.

PoE Forge of the Titans unique map

In endgame Crucible encounters, you'll occasionally find Igneus Geodes, currency items that can be cracked open to reveal a Primeval Remnant. This is a map-like item that grants access to The Forge of the Titans, the culmination of your Crucible journey.

PoE Igneus Geodes

If you survive the Forge of the Titans, you'll find the aforementioned Forge, which allows you to merge crucible trees on two items together.

To combine Crucible Trees on unique items together, you'll want to find a Crystalline Geode and crack it open to reveal the secret higher level version of the Forge of the Titans.

Crucible FAQs

Will Crucible become a core game mechanic?

We'd like to see how the community receives Crucible once it's playable at launch before we make decisions on whether or not it should become a core game mechanic.

Can we get a list of the Crucible passives, and which weapon types they can appear on?

We'd like to watch the community discover the intricacies of the Crucible Passive Trees, so we'll leave it to you to discover!

How many portals does the Forge of the Titans area have?

Six

Are the Crucible trees randomly generated each time and are the skills specific to the weapon or shield type?

Crucible Trees are randomly generated, though the types of skill a weapon can get will be dependent on its item level and class. For example, bows will have access to particular bow passives and will not have access to particular sceptre passives.

Note that an existing Crucible Tree can be removed if you are able to access and complete a special Crucible Endgame encounter.

Are there any restrictions to how many times you can merge trees on a weapon or shield?

There are no restrictions to the number of times an item's Crucible tree can be combined with another. However, only weapons with revealed trees can be combined with each other.

Did you forget to post Minion Mastery changes?

No, there were no changes to Minion Masteries in this expansion. We are aware of feedback asking for these in the future.

Will unequipping Blood Price, the new helmet that reserves nearby enemy monsters' life, heal enemies? (i.e. could you use it as a helmet swap for a free 8% extra damage against bosses)

It follows the same reservation rules that are on players, so it will not heal enemies.

Will Master Distiller work with Mageblood?

Master Distiller consumes flask charges, so you will still need to feed flask charges to gain the bonuses.

Can you clarify how the new “10% of leech is instant” Mastery option works? Does it recover 10% of your maximum total life per second from leech?

Each individual leech still has a maximum amount. If you leech the max amount per leech, you'll get 10% of that instantly and 90% over time. However, there is also a maximum on the total recovery rate of all leech. Instant leech isn't part of that because it has no rate.

Regarding, “Skills cost Life instead of 30% of Mana Cost.” Does this mean that a skill that costs 10 mana will only cost 3 life with this node, or does it just transfer 30% of cost to life, as in 3 life + 7 mana?

A skill that costs 10 mana will instead cost 3 life and 7 mana with this Mastery allocated.

With the introduction of the new Life Mastery “15% increased maximum Life if there are no Life Modifiers on Equipped Body Armour”, will unique modifiers on items currently tagged as Life modifiers get a passover to make more uniques work with this Mastery?

There are no changes to uniques as a result of this Mastery being added.

The Gain Adrenaline for 1 second when you switch stance Mastery seems too strong. Will you change it?

We are looking into this and will let you know the results via the RAQ post.

Do you know if the Triggerbots will work with things like Summon Holy Relic minions?

Triggerbots only work with things you trigger yourself. They don't work with things your minions trigger.

What are the implications of the changes to the way projectiles return to you for both Kinetic Blast and Fireball when used with the Nimis Ring linked with fork? Do they still explode on walls and your character, and on contact with fork?

Nimis changes from "Projectiles Return to you at the end of flight" to "Projectiles Return to you". This means projectiles will return if they collide with a target and don't pierce/chain/fork/etc from it, where before they would not have done so.

Fireball already did not explode when it forked (or pierced, chained, etc), fireball's explosion destroys the projectile, and only happens when the projectile can't move further through any behaviour.

Kinetic Blast does not itself explode, it causes explosions around when it impacts something, this is still the case.

Did United in Dream also lose its poison chance?

The poison chance was only removed from Severed in Sleep.

Has the Balance of Terror Jewel been removed from the game?

It is not obtainable in 3.21, as it only dropped from Sanctum content.

What is Spark's Projectile Speed now?

The base projectile speed of Spark has been reduced by 25%. This has been updated in the https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3361403]patch notes.

Was the removal of Books of Regression intended to nerf the strategy that involved using them for Heist?

Books of Regression were removed because their intended purpose (related to PvP characters) is no longer relevant. The way they were being used in Heist was not intended.

With Ruthless offering a different, smaller set of challenges to complete than the base game, will it be possible to complete some challenges in Ruthless and others in the main league in order to get these rewards?

You can't mix and match. They are separate challenge tracks.

Why is the Boss Kill Event being hosted in Ruthless?

We want this event to represent the ultimate challenge in Path of Exile, which is to kill these two pinnacle bosses under the constraints of Hardcore, Solo Self-found and Ruthless simultaneously.

Is there a prize pool for the Boss Kill Event on consoles?

Yes, the first place winner for each console platform will receive a transferable ExileCon VIP ticket.

The Crucible Challenge League

  • Challenge leagues are a great opportunity for a fresh start in a new economy. All of your old characters and items are still present in the Standard and Hardcore leagues, but you're encouraged to join the new leagues, complete challenges and demonstrate your mastery of Path of Exile!
  • In the Crucible Challenge League, you'll learn about the ancient titans who once shaped the primordial surface of Wraeclast. If you're powerful enough, you will earn the ability to forge their power onto your weapons.
  • Crucible Forges are scattered throughout Wraeclast. When you find one, select one of your weapons and channel the power of the ancient titans to spawn a challenging encounter. The longer you channel for, the more the molten monsters merge together to form more fearsome foes. You're in control of the difficulty and reward of these encounters.
  • In an iconically Path of Exile way, your weapons can now be imbued with powerful Passive Skill Trees of their own. Encounters at Crucible Forges grant you experience that lets you uncover the tree on a weapon and gradually progress through its skills. You can only allocate one skill from each tier, so choose your path through each Crucible Passive Tree carefully. If you're lucky, you'll find certain skills that, when allocated, are worth valuable currency or unique items when sold to a vendor.
  • Crucible's endgame takes place in The Forge of the Titans, a dangerous area harbouring an ancient power: the ability to melt a weapon down, merging its Crucible Passive Tree with that of another weapon. This process produces unpredictable results, incorporating elements of each tree as well as random upgrades, downgrades and changes. Through careful use of the Forge, it's possible to craft some incredibly powerful skill trees on your weapons.
  • For more information about this expansion, check out pathofexile.com/crucible
  • With 3.21.0, there are Standard, Hardcore, Solo Self-Found and Ruthless variations of the Crucible challenge league available. They have the same core mechanics and items. You can create private league versions of these leagues, with mods that make the game harder.
  • The new Crucible challenge league includes a set of 40 new challenges, and 8 new challenges in Ruthless Crucible. There are microtransaction rewards for completing challenges that are only obtainable in this league. These rewards will be revealed in an upcoming news post.

  • Introduced 3 pairs of Atlas Gateways to the Atlas Passive Skill Tree. Allocating an Atlas Gateway allows you to allocate its connected Gateway on the other side of the Atlas, and then any Atlas Passive Skills connected from there.
  • Added a new Dexterity Skill Gem - Snipe: Channel to charge up your bow, gaining stages. Release to trigger one supported bow skill for each stage gained. If there are no supported skills, but at least one stage was gained, this skill will fire its own arrow instead. Cannot be used by Totems.
  • Added a new Dexterity/Intelligence Support Gem - Manaforged Arrows: Supports bow attack skills, causing them to trigger when you've spent an amount of total mana on other bow attacks based on the supported skill's mana cost. Supported skills deal more damage based on their mana cost. Cannot modify the skills of minions.
  • Added a new Intelligence Support Gem - Prismatic Burst: Supports attacks, causing them to trigger the Prismatic Burst spell. Cannot support triggered attacks or attacks used by things other than you. Cannot modify the skills of minions. Prismatic Burst chooses an element at random and deals damage of that type in an area. Having higher strength makes it more likely to choose fire, higher dexterity makes it more likely to choose cold, and higher intelligence makes it more likely to choose lightning.
  • Added a new Dexterity/Strength Support Gem - Momentum: Supports attack skills that aren't triggered. Using those skills will grant Momentum, which is lost when you move (including teleporting).
  • Added over 10 new Unique Items.
