Act 3's Clarissa and Act 4's Petarus and Vanja have all the Main Progression recipes. Some Masters sell currency in bulk:
|20x Cartographer's Chisel||12x Chaos Orb||Zana|
The PoE vendor recipes allows the player to sell items to any town vendor in exchange for a multitude of currency items and equipment. For a beginner, you can do Chaos Orb recipe. Latter, Exalted Shard recipe is more profitable.
Chaos recipe is nice and easy while running atziri, lab or maps. Best way to make currency as a new player is trading in sets of unidentified rares (item level 60 or higher iirc) for 2 Chaos Orbs. Then after a night of mapping/delving/etcing head over to PoE Trade and trade in all the stuff you don’t need in for Chaos Orbs. It all adds up pretty fast and you’ll find yourself with plenty of currency before you know it.
Boss killing is also much more profitable early on, both in terms of the items and bosskilling payments, but drops dramatically as the league goes on. Chaos/hour will depend on what you kill, and early on very dependent on your map drops, but it’s quite high.
You can go to PoE Ninja and find the best character build examples. Investing into your gear, you will be clearing maps fast enough that it is more chance to farm more valuable currency items.
Uber lab is the easiest way to learn and farm currency(I’m not talking about best way to earn currency). It’s simple because you don’t need to learn how to roll maps, setting up atlas/sextants and learn what to pick up. Just look for a cheap build that can do uber lab. Do it until you get used to moving fast in any layout, check any enchants on poe if you don’t know the price.
Item/currency flipping are the most chaos/hour, but it isn’t for everyone. Early on in the league if you get your masters to level 8 very fast, you can also make a huge amount from selling your services. I only flipped currency for about a week, and was getting a little over 400-500 chaos/hour depending on times. It could have been more; I was very new to it all and wasn’t in every market.
Leveling skill gems to 20 for sale and then sell for Exalted Orb. You can find the related expensive skill gems from PoE Ninja.
In general, I would recommend just finding something profitable you enjoy and playing it a lot. For example, farm the highest tier of map your build can do comfortably without dying too much.
Honestly, the easiest way to make currency in standard is just gear up with ~60%MF and run a high density map with just alc since you don’t have enough currency for flipping. If you are starting out with low currency, do not add any investments to your map because you can’t afford the loss of profits due to RNG. Just alc and go nets you the best currency in return given that you don’t have enough resources to fully chisel, sextant, fragments, and vaal 100 maps. I farmed up a headhunter within a week with just 3-4 hours per day doing it this way.
More details on my method: -Have a dump tab to deposit my loots -Pick up all the uniques (These uniques will help you sustain alcs if you vendor them) -Look for uniques that sell for a decent amount with high rolls and sell them. -Alc maps in sets of 50-100 and reroll maps with mods you don’t like. -Do lower tier maps to infinitely sustaining them (look up a video on how to do that)
When picking a map tier to run to run, or when rolling a map, you might be tempted to go for the highest tier possible, or to roll the best pack size and quantity mods possible. Before you do this, please consider whether or not you’ll be able to clear it efficiently with your current character. It’s almost always better to pick a map where you can safely destroy most packs with a single ability.
Linear map layouts, and other types of layouts that are easy to clear without backtracking are almost always going to feel better than convoluted maze maps.
A strict item filter is vital to avoid wasting your time. Every second you spend clicking a wisdom scroll, transmutation orb, blacksmith whetstone etc has an opportunity cost. Additionally, a filter that shows too much will clog your screen and obstruct your view of monsters, which could put you in potentially dangerous situations.
Another thing to consider is the inventory size of items. I am to be able to complete a map using only 1, or on rare occasions 2 portals. Having to leave your map takes time, and disrupts your run.
My own personal trade ruleset is this:
1. Minimum transaction profit: 5c. I don’t even list items that are worth less than this, unless I can sell them in bulk, like certain maps or essences.
2. Be polite, don’t waste people’s time, but don’t let anyone else waste your time either. If I’m trying to buy an item I usually wait about 10 seconds to give them time to respond, before whispering the next person on the list.
3. If someone is trying to offer you camels and goats (random rare items plus mixed currency that equates to far less than your listed price) for a high value item, just say “No thanks” and keep mapping. Negotiating with these people is usually a huge waste of time.
4. If you want an item to sell quickly, it’s OKAY to sell it for a lower price than the market value, so long as you are aware of it, and are making an informed decision. Bear in mind that you might get lowballed by a large amount if you list an item without a price, though. It’s also okay to list an item for more than the current market value if you’re not in a hurry to sell it. Prices will change depending on the time of day, how far into the league you are, and on the shifting meta.
