The Eater of Worlds without beginning to drown

Here's how to conquer The Eater of Worlds encounter in Path of Exile without succumbing to the drowning mechanic:

Understanding Drowning:

  • Moving Orbs: During the fight, several glowing orbs move around the arena. Touching these orbs inflicts a debuff called "Drowning" with a 3-second timer.
  • Fatal Effect: If the Drowning debuff timer reaches zero while you're not moving, you die.
  • Movement Nullifies Drowning: Any form of movement, including walking, dashing, or using skills, resets the Drowning timer.

Strategies to Avoid Drowning:

  • Constant Movement: This is the core principle. Maintain constant movement throughout the fight, even when attacking The Eater of Worlds. Utilize techniques like:

    • Strafing: Continuously move side-to-side while attacking.
    • Movement Skills: Incorporate movement skills like Flicker Strike, Leap Slam, or Shield Charge into your attack rotation to reset the Drowning timer efficiently.
    • Circle Strafing: Move in a circular pattern around The Eater of Worlds while attacking.
  • Arena Awareness: While maintaining movement, be mindful of The Eater of Worlds' attacks and avoid getting cornered by the moving orbs. Position yourself strategically to have room to maneuver.

  • Phase Transitions: Drowning debuff is removed when The Eater of Worlds transitions between phases. Use these moments to reposition yourself and plan your movement for the next phase.

Additional Tips:

  • Damage Output: Focus on maximizing your damage output to defeat The Eater of Worlds quickly, minimizing the time you're exposed to the moving orbs and Drowning.
  • Minion Builds (Optional): If you're using a Summoner build, strategically position your minions to avoid the moving orbs while you focus on maintaining your own movement.

Important Note:

The key to this challenge is ingrained in your movement during the fight. Practice maintaining constant movement while still dealing damage to The Eater of Worlds.

Without being affected by more than 10 stacks of Inescapable Doom

Doom Phase – “Inescapable doom!” – the boss teleports to the center of the arena and begins to channel, while tracking the player with a beam with a steadily growing AoE from above. Purple spheres are spawned around the arena by Maven. The player has to stand in the circle around each sphere for a few moments to activate them (the sphere begins to glow distinctly).
